RAF Kirkistown

Kirkistown Motor Racing Circuit is a permanent motorsport circuit located between the villages of Kirkistown and Portavogie, on the Ards Peninsula of County Down in Northern Ireland.

Kirkistown Castle is a castle situated near Cloghy, County Down, Northern Ireland. The tower house and bawn is a state care historic monument in the townland of Kirkistown, in Ards and North Down Borough (at grid ref: J6450 5800).It is an impressive three-storey tower house, built in 1622 by Roland Savage, a Norman landlord, at the site of a ninth-century round tower. It was occupied until 1731, when it was deserted. It post-dates the Plantation, but is fully in the late medieval tower-house tradition. Parts of the bawn wall survive with three-quarter round flanker towers at the angles. The tower was remodelled in Gothic style in 1800 by a Col. Johnston, and in 1836 some further work was performed by a very young Master Montgomery of Grey Abbey. The building was left, however, with a partial roof and broken windows, and the elements soon returned it to disrepair. The Northern Ireland Environment Agency opened it to the public for the first time in 2001.

Portavogie (from Irish Port a' Bhogaigh 'harbour of the bog') is a village, townland and fishing port in County Down, Northern Ireland. It lies within the Ards and North Down Borough and is the easternmost settlement in Ireland. It had a population of 2,122 people in the 2011 Census.The town has a modern harbour, housing a large fishing fleet catching mainly prawns and herrings. Most evenings there are fish auctions on the quays. Three murals on the exterior of the local primary school celebrate the history of the fishing industry in the town.

Cloghy ( KLAWKH-ee; from Irish Clochaigh, meaning 'stony place'), also spelt Cloughey or Cloughy, is a small village and townland in County Down, Northern Ireland. It lies on the east (Irish Sea) coast of the Ards Peninsula, in the Ards and North Down Borough. It had a population of 1,075 people in the 2011 Census.

The White House is a ruined 17th century dwelling house at Ballyspurge, near Cloghy, County Down, Northern Ireland on the Ards Peninsula. It is situated about one mile (1.2 km) south-east of Cloghy, overlooking Slanes Bay. It is a State Care Historic Monument at grid ref: J6248 5506.

Ards Upper (named after the former barony of Ards) is a barony in County Down, Northern Ireland. It lies on the southern half of the Ards Peninsula in the east of the county, with the Irish Sea to its east and Strangford Lough to its west. It is bordered by two other baronies: Ards Lower to the north; and Lecale Lower just across the mouth of Strangford Lough to the south.The barony of Ards Upper was created in 1851 when the barony of Ards was split into two, the other part being Ards Lower. The territory includes the lands of that part of the ancient barony of Ards known as Mid or Middle Ards, which is located in the north of Ards Upper.

Ballyhalbert (formerly known as Talbotston and Halbertston) is a small village and townland in County Down, Northern Ireland. It is on the east (Irish Sea) coast of the Ards Peninsula between Ballywalter and Portavogie. It is largely residential and has a small harbour and large caravan site which was formerly a Royal Air Force (RAF) airfield, RAF Ballyhalbert, during World War II. It is within the Ards and North Down Borough. It had a population of 1,026 people (407 households) in the 2011 Census, up from 447 people in the 2001 Census.The easternmost settlement of Ireland, Burr Point, is within Ballyhalbert's environs.

Royal Air Force Ballyhalbert or more simply RAF Ballyhalbert is a former Royal Air Force station at Ballyhalbert on the Ards Peninsula, County Down, Northern Ireland RAF Kirkistown was a satellite to the larger Ballyhalbert. Construction began in 1940.

Burr Point is considered the easternmost point of mainland Northern Ireland and the Island of Ireland. It is located in the townland of Ballyhalbert on the Ards Peninsula in County Down, at longitude 5.4326ºW, although the monument is at longitude 5.4397ºW. It is a just over a mile (or 2 km) southeast of Ballyhalbert village.The most easterly point of all Northern Ireland and Ireland is a small unnamed rock next to Cannon Rock, a rock situated 4.08 kilometres off the Ards Peninsula, at longitude 5.42ºW.

St Joseph's GAA Club, Ballycran is a Gaelic Athletic Association club located in Rubane, County Down, Northern Ireland. The club is exclusively concerned with hurling and camogie. The club competes in Down GAA competitions and in Division 1 of the Antrim Hurling League. The Club's grounds are called 'McKenna Park' and house the John Mallon Stand (capacity 5,000).
