The Sylacauga meteorite fell on November 30, 1954, at 12:46 p.m. local time (18:46 UT) in Oak Grove, Alabama, near Sylacauga, in the United States. It is also commonly called the Hodges meteorite because a fragment of it struck Ann Elizabeth Fowler Hodges (1920–1972).

Gantts Quarry is a quarry and ghost town in Talladega County, Alabama, United States. The population was zero at the 2000, 2010, and 2020 censuses, although it had seven residents as late as the 1998 population estimate. Incorporated in 1910 to keep neighboring Sylacauga from annexing it, it was officially disincorporated after its population dwindled to 0 effective 31 December 2001.

The Avondale Mills were a system of textile mills located predominantly in Alabama, but also in Georgia and South Carolina, with headquarters in Birmingham, and later in Sylacauga, Alabama. The Birmingham neighborhood of Avondale was chosen to be the site of the first mill, hence the naming of the company. Founded in 1897, the mills employed thousands of Alabamians throughout its 109-year history until they closed in 2006. Avondale Mills was founded in 1897 by a consortium of investors including the Trainer family of Chester, Pennsylvania, the future governor of Alabama, Braxton Bragg Comer, and a group of Birmingham civic leaders including Frederick Mitchell Jackson Sr. The mills refined the plentiful cotton from Alabama fields and, at its peak, devoured 20% of the entire state of Alabama's cotton production. The owners and operators of Avondale Mills were noted not only for progressive stances with regards to the overall well-being of their workers, but also for conditions of child labor that, while common at the time, are today considered abusive. The mills were operated solely in Alabama until Donald Comer released control of Avondale Mills to his brother-in-law, Craig Smith, who helped expand the mills into both Georgia and South Carolina. Walton Monroe Mills Inc. purchased Avondale Mills in 1986. In 1995, the owning firm acquired the textile operations of the Graniteville Company. Disaster struck when, on the morning of January 6, 2005, a train accident outside of the Graniteville, South Carolina, mill caused a large chlorine gas leak from a ruptured tank car that killed 9 people on the train and surrounding area. In 2006, as a result of the Graniteville disaster and increased competition from overseas, Avondale formally shuttered its operations.

Mignon is a census-designated place (CDP) in Talladega County, Alabama, United States. At the 2020 census, the population was 1,186.

The B.B. Comer Memorial Library is a library located in Sylacauga, Alabama. The library was named to the National Register of Historic Places on September 6, 2005. The library was founded in 1936 as the Sylacauga Public Library. It was moved three years later, and after a $5,000 grant by the family B. B. Comer, the library was renamed in his honor. The library was again renamed to Isabel Anderson Comer Museum and Arts Center in 1962. It was created with a marble exterior, and was originally built through the Works Progress Administration.

Sylacauga is a city in Talladega County, Alabama, United States. At the 2020 census, the population was 12,578. Sylacauga is known for its fine white marble bedrock. This was discovered shortly after settlers moved into the area and has been quarried ever since. The marble industry was the first recorded industry in the Sylacauga area. Sylacauga is the site of the first documented case of an object from outer space hitting a person. On November 30, 1954, a 4 kg (9 lb) piece of what became known as the Hodges Fragment from the Sylacauga Meteorite crashed through the roof of an Oak Grove house, bounced off a radio, and badly bruised Ann Hodges, who was taking an afternoon nap.

Bon Air is a town in Talladega County, Alabama, United States. It incorporated in 1932. At the 2010 census the population was 116, up from 96 in 2000.

The Benjamin H. Averiett House, near Sylacauga, Alabama, was listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 1986. The listing included three contributing buildings on 605 acres (2.45 km2).This property has also been known as the Hudson Hamilton Place. It includes "Georgia Folk House" architecture.The Averiett estate had more than 10,000 acres (16 sq mi). This was listed along with three other properties as part of a study of the estate.

The Welch-Averiett House, in Talladega County, Alabama near Sylacauga, Alabama, dates from 1830. It was listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 1986. The listing included four contributing buildings on 44 acres (18 ha), on a land parcel of about 1,000 acres (4.0 km2).The house was built around 1920. It is a "a rambling twelve room clapboard bungalow little changed since c.1920. It has a hipped roof with broad eaves and a shed dormer decorated with angular brackets. The exterior is clapboard irregularly fenestrated with 6/6 wooden sash windows. There are four exterior brick chimneys. Two board and batten 'cabins' adjoin the rear with gabled and shed additions to the west end."It is also known as the L.L. Dean House and was known in the 1800s as Welch Spring.Other parts of the estate are older. The listing includes a rammed earth smokehouse.The original settler, Daniel Welch was living on this property by 1831. The Averiett estate as a whole once had more than 10,000 acres (16 sq mi). This was listed along with three other properties as part of a study of the estate.It is located about 8 miles (13 km) southwest of Sylacauga on the north side of Alabama State Route 8, in the Fayetteville, Alabama community.

Childersburg is a city in Talladega County in the U.S. state of Alabama. It was incorporated in 1889. At the 2020 census, the population was 4,754. It has a history dating back before 1540, when it was noted as a village of the Coosa Nation visited by the Spanish explorer Hernando de Soto. It is said a member of De Soto’s crew fell ill and was left to settle in the area of present day Childersburg where the Coosa people cared for the ill explorer. The Alabama Army Ammunition Plant, important during World War II, was located 4 miles (6 km) north of Childersburg.
