Tom Braly Municipal Stadium is a 14,215-seat stadium in Florence, Alabama. It is primarily used for American football, and is the home field of the University of North Alabama Lions and the Florence High School Falcons. It also hosted the NCAA Division II Football Championship games from 1986 to 2013, which were broadcast on ESPN. UNA holds a 252-114-8 record at Braly Stadium. It has also hosted 30 of UNA's 47 Division II Playoff games.

The Cherry Street Historic District is a historic district in Florence, Alabama. Florence was founded in 1818 and quickly prospered as a cotton shipping port on the Tennessee River, but did not see its greatest growth until the latter part of the 19th century. Spurred by industrial development from several mills and iron furnaces as well as the Florence Wagon Works, the demand for middle-class, suburban homes increased. Five houses in the district date from the late 1800s, but the majority were constructed from the late 1910s through the mid 1930s, when the city saw further growth fueled by the construction of Wilson Dam and a large potassium nitrate production plant. The earliest houses in the district are predominantly Queen Anne style, with late 1800s houses being mostly two stories and early 1900s houses mostly one story. During the second wave of construction between 1920 and 1938, most houses built were bungalows. Five apartment buildings were also built to house the influx of workers coming to the area, centered on North Cherry Street and East Tuscaloosa Street, which became known as "Angel Corner" after its developer, J. M. Angel. The district was listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 1997.

Coffee High School was a public high school established in 1914 in Florence, Alabama. After the 2003–2004 school year, the school merged with Bradshaw High School to form Florence High School.

The Walnut Street Historic District is a historic district in Florence, Alabama. Development of the neighborhood began in earnest in the 1890s, although the oldest house in the district dates from 1870. Florence's first economic boom after the Civil War began in the 1880s, and the newly minted upper-middle class began building homes to the east of older residential sections, such as Wood Avenue and the Sannoner District. The economy cooled in the 1900s and 1910s, only to pick up again in the 1920s with the construction of Wilson Dam and several textile mills. Houses in the district represent three major types: the earliest constructed are the largest, and have Victorian and Classical Revival details; many houses from the early 1900s are cottages with either Victorian or California bungalow influences; and later 1920s and 1930s homes are usually two-story brick structures with Georgian influences.The district was listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 1976, and its boundaries were increased in 1993 and 1996.

The College Place Historic District is a historic district in Florence, Alabama. The area was the site of a Confederate fortification during the Civil War. In 1882 the land was purchased by Judge J. J. Mitchell and used as pasture land; Mitchell's house sits on Wood Avenue to the east of the district. The property began to be sold off in the 1900s, with the oldest house in the district dating to 1907. Construction in the district accelerated in the mid- to late-1920s, with many professionals including physicians, merchants, scientists, and attorneys building homes in the neighborhood. Styles represented include Mission Revival, Georgian Revival, and bungalows. The district rises on a slight slope above the campus of the University of North Alabama, and has vistas of the campus including Wesleyan Hall. The district was listed on the Alabama Register of Landmarks and Heritage in 1992 and the National Register of Historic Places in 1995; the boundaries were extended in 1998.

The Wood Avenue Historic District is a historic district in Florence, Alabama. The residential neighborhood was primarily developed after Reconstruction, although five houses date from before the Civil War. By the time of Florence's economic boom of the 1880s, the most fashionable upper-class neighborhood in Florence, today known as the Sannoner Historic District, had already been filled in, leading development to move to Wood Avenue to the west. Most homes built during this time were large, Victorian structures, including many elaborate examples of Queen Anne architecture. As the economy slowed in the 1910s, more modest homes were constructed, primarily bungalows. Although they now make up nearly half of the buildings in the district, the first bungalow in the area, the Wade-Ware House, met resistance from neighbors when it was built in 1916, arguing that its style was not up to the standards of the neighborhood. After the completion of Wilson Dam in 1926, Florence's economy quickened once more and larger homes began to be built in the district. Houses of this era tended to be Georgian Revival in style, although other revival styles, such as Spanish Colonial and Tudor are represented. As the neighborhood filled in, the focus of development shifted to the north and west, including in the Walnut Street Historic District.The district was listed on the Alabama Register of Landmarks and Heritage and the National Register of Historic Places in 1978. Its boundaries were increased in 1996 and 1997.

Wesleyan Hall, constructed in 1856, is one of the oldest structures on the University of North Alabama campus, located in Florence, Alabama.

The University of North Alabama (UNA) is a public university in Florence, Alabama. It is the state's oldest public university. Occupying a 130-acre (0.5 km2) campus in a residential section of Florence, UNA is located within a four-city area that also includes Tuscumbia, Sheffield and Muscle Shoals. The four cities compose a metropolitan area with a combined population of 140,000 people.The University of North Alabama was one of about 180 "normal schools" founded by state governments in the 19th century to train teachers for the rapidly growing public common schools. Some closed but most steadily expanded their role and became state colleges in the early 20th century and state universities in the late 20th century. It was founded as LaGrange College in 1830. It was reestablished in 1872 as the first state-supported teachers college south of the Ohio River. A year later, it became one of the nation's first coeducational colleges.

The North Alabama Lions are the athletic teams of the University of North Alabama, located in Florence, Alabama. The Lions are a member of the National Collegiate Athletic Association (NCAA) Division I and compete within the ASUN Conference for all sports except football, in which they play in the United Athletic Conference. The university has a total of 14 varsity sports teams, six men's teams and eight women's teams. The fall of 2018 marked the Lions first year of their transition into Division I. They have a storied tradition in Division II and have earned numerous national titles competing in NCAA Division II's Gulf South Conference.

The President's Home at the University of North Alabama serves as the official residence of the university president. Constructed by the Works Projects Administration and completed in 1940, the residence is currently occupied by President and Mrs. Kenneth D. Kitts.

Sweetwater Mansion (also known as the Governor Robert Patton House), located in Florence, Alabama, is a plantation house designed by General John Brahan of the Alabama Militia.

The Wilson Park Houses are a group of three historic homes in Florence, Alabama. Built as upper-class residences between 1890 and 1918, the houses are adjacent to Wilson Park, laid out as a public space upon the city's founding and later renamed for President Woodrow Wilson. Two of the houses came to be owned by Hiram Kennedy Douglass, who upon his death in 1975 willed the houses to an organization willing to maintain them for the public. The houses are now owned by the city and contain the Kennedy-Douglass Center for the Arts. The houses were listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 1979.
