The 2nd Ryder Cup Matches were held at the Moortown Golf Club in Leeds, England. It was very cold, with hail and at one point heavy snow on the greens. About two thousand spectators saw America gain a narrow lead after the foursome matches before the Great Britain team won singles on the final day and thus the competition by a score of 7–5 points. George Duncan of Scotland became the first of only three British captains to lift the Ryder Cup which was given to him by Samuel Ryder who was in attendance after missing the 1927 matches.

Carr Manor is a Victorian grade II listed house in Meanwood, Leeds, England, designed by Edward Schroeder Prior and built for Thomas Clifford Allbutt (1836–1925). In 1881 it replaced Carr Manor House, though retaining the 1796 stable block. The former gardener's and housekeeper's cottages, the former stables (now garage) and the wall, gate piers and gates are also grade II listed. It was Richard Norman Shaw’s custom to give setting up commissions to his former pupils. Carr Manor was Edward Schroeder Prior's setting up commission on his departure in 1880. The house shows more of influence from Philip Webb than from Shaw. It follows the local vernacular of strong stone built manor houses of the 17th century.

Carr Manor Community School (formerly Carr Manor High School) is a mixed all-through school located in Leeds, West Yorkshire, England. It was formed from a merger of Lawrence Oates Middle School and Stainbeck High School in 1992 under headmaster Terry Burgon. It is a specialist sports college.For the new school year in September 2006, as part of a reorganisation of secondary education in Leeds, the school was rebuilt with new staff and a new headmaster, Simon Flowers. Carr Manor was set to lose its sixth form but gain extra buildings, however, the school retained its sixth form along with a new building. The school was earmarked for closure before the new school was built. However, after opposition from politicians, parents, staff and pupils, a new school was built to replace the old two buildings. The school was officially opened by Rt. Hon. Tony Blair, Prime Minister on 15 March 2007. The school opened a primary phase in 2012. In 2014 the school federated with Wetherby High School.

Sand Moor is regarded as one of the best courses in Yorkshire, and has hosted many important professional and elite amateur tournaments, including the Yorkshire Evening News Tournament (9 times between 1931 and 1963) and the Leeds Cup (1946).

Moortown Golf Club is a golf club located in Alwoodley, near Leeds, West Yorkshire, England. It was founded in 1909, and the championship golf course was designed by Alister MacKenzie. In 1929, Moortown hosted the second Ryder Cup matches, the first to be played in Great Britain. About two thousand spectators saw America gain a narrow lead before the Great Britain team won singles on the final day and thus the competition by a score of 7–5 points.Moortown was a regular venue on the British PGA tournament circuit, which later became the European Tour, through to the mid-1980s, hosting the Yorkshire Evening News Tournament (19 times between 1925 and 1962), the Daily Telegraph Foursomes Tournament (1949), the Lotus Tournament (1950), the Silentnight Tournament (1965), the Tournament Players Championship (1980) and the Car Care Plan International (1984–1986). The club has also hosted qualifying rounds for The Open Championship as well as being the venue for the English Amateur four times, and the Brabazon Trophy on five occasions.

Chapel Allerton is an inner suburb of north-east Leeds, West Yorkshire, England, 2 miles (3.2 km) from the city centre. It sits within the Chapel Allerton ward of Leeds City Council and had a population of 18,206 and 23,536 at the 2001 and 2011 census respectively. The area was also listed in the 2018 Sunday Times report on Best Places to Live in northern England.

It is a civil parish and sits in the Moortown ward of Leeds City Council in the north east of the city. It is situated between Roundhay and Gledhow on the east and Weetwood on the west, with Chapel Allerton to the south, and Alwoodley to the north. It is synonymous with Moor Allerton, and institutions in the area use both names. Moortown lies in the LS17 postcode district, which was reported to contain the most expensive housing area in Yorkshire and the Humber by The Times in 2007.

The Leeds Outer Ring Road is a main road that runs around most of the perimeter of the city of Leeds, West Yorkshire, England. The ring road is approximately 29 miles (45 km) and consists of single and dual carriageways. The road is not a loop and so is not a true ring road, although it is designated as such. The road begins in Belle Isle and ends in Thorpe Park, Leeds at junction 46 of the M1 motorway. It begins in Belle Isle as an un-numbered road and goes through to Beeston. It is then designated the A6110 between Beeston and Bramley a dual carriageway, before running concurrently with the Stanningley By-Pass A647 also a dual carriageway but with grade separated junctions. For the rest of the way between Farsley and Thorpe Park the road is the A6120 and it is a mixture of single and dual carriageway. The ring road ends at Junction 45 of the M1.

Eccup Reservoir is a reservoir in Alwoodley, a suburb of Leeds, West Yorkshire, England, near the village of Eccup. It was first constructed in 1843, and expanded to its present size in 1897. The open water area is 91 hectares (220 acres), making it largest area of water in West Yorkshire. It receives water from several smaller reservoirs and from the River Ouse. The reservoir is owned by Yorkshire Water. The reservoir and the surrounding woodlands are both Sites of Special Scientific Interest. The western end of the reservoir is the most vegetated. Fringing vegetation includes shore-weed (Littorella uniflora) and amphibious bistort (Persicaria amphibia), and such sedges as bottle sedge (Carex rostrata) and bladder sedge (Carex vesicaria), as well as taller stands of bulrush (Typha latifolia) and common spike-rush (Eleocharis palustris). Bladder sedge is rare in the county, only having been recorded at two other sites. The reservoir is now home to a growing population of red kites.The reservoir is visited by large numbers of migrating and overwintering wading birds and waterfowl. The most significant of these is the goosander, with up to 2% of the British population overwintering here. Others include wigeon, teal, pochard, shelduck, shoveler, ruddy duck, goldeneye, greylag goose, dunlin and green sandpiper, while mallard and tufted duck are present all year round, as are curlew, redshank and common sandpiper.There are 25 geocaches around Eccup Reservoir, making it a popular place with walkers. A circular walk of about 5 mi (8 km) around the reservoir is possible.

Beckhill (or Beck Hill) is a small council estate in the Meanwood area of Leeds, West Yorkshire, England. It has received negative local publicity in the past, but is now the subject of urban regeneration. The area is situated south of Stainbeck Road and north of Potternewton Lane. To the East is the Miles Hill Estate. Beckhill falls within the Chapel Allerton ward of Leeds City Council.
