Central Alabama is a region in the state of Alabama. It is sometimes considered part of North Alabama because both regions are mountainous, but in some definitions they are different regions. The Valley and Ridge Province of the Appalachians consist mainly of long, low ridges such as Red Mountain, Sand Mountain, Beaver Creek Mountain, Shades Mountain, and Coldwater Mountain in this region, and make impressive backdrops in the Greater Birmingham, Gadsden, and Anniston metropolitan areas. The easternmost part of Central Alabama around Anniston has the steepest mountains and highest elevations of the region. Coldwater Mountain and Mount Cheaha make up the highest of the mountain ridges that are located in the eastern portion of the region. The Coosa River divides the easternmost portion of the region from the central portion with the Birmingham area. The westernmost portion of Central Alabama is relatively a flat region with fertile black soil called the Black Belt. The Black Warrior River and its tributaries contribute to the fertile land of the area, and also serve as a demarcation line between the western and the central portions of the region. The central portion of Central Alabama varies from rugged in the east to flat in the west. Numerous valleys are scattered throughout this region between the mountain ridges including the densely populated Jones Valley and Shades Valley. Because the central portion is more rugged compared to the westernmost portion of Central Alabama, it is also the most flood-prone. Urban sprawl has exacerbated the risk of flooding by increasing the proportion of land covered by hard surfaces, leading to greater runoff during storms. The Black Warrior, Cahaba, and Coosa Rivers and their tributaries are among the many waterways that wind their way through the region. Other major waterways that run through the area include Choccolocco Creek, Shades Creek, and the Little Cahaba River. Large deposits of iron ore, limestone, and coal are chief among the plentiful mineral resources found in the region. The coincidence of these three in close proximity was a major incentive for the rapid development of industry in the Birmingham District after the American Civil War.

Hoover High School is a four-year public high school in the Birmingham, Alabama suburb of Hoover. Hoover replaced the former W.A. Berry High School. It is one of two high schools in the Hoover City School System and one of three International Baccalaureate schools in the Birmingham-Hoover Metropolitan Area. The school colors are orange, black, and white, and the athletic teams are called the Buccaneers. Hoover competes in AHSAA Class 7A athletics.Hoover is the largest high school in the state of Alabama, with an enrollment of 2,770 students. It is known for being featured in 2006 in the MTV reality television series, Two-A-Days.

Pelham Civic Complex is a 4,100-seat multi-purpose arena in Pelham, Alabama. It features two NHL size ice skating rinks with a holding capacity of 500 skaters, a skating school, ice skating birthday party rooms, and a multi-purpose banquet area. Its hockey capacity is 4,100; the arena has 17,000 square feet (1,600 m2) of floor space. It is the only public ice skating rink in the Birmingham, Alabama area. It also houses several other functions, such as corporate events, conventions, sporting contests, trade shows, and as the home of the SPHL team the Birmingham Bulls.

Pelham is a city in Shelby County, Alabama, United States. It incorporated in July 1964 and is a suburb located in the Birmingham metropolitan area, Alabama which was home to over 1.1 million residents as of the 2020 census. At the 2000 census the population was 14,369, and has grown to 24,318 by the 2020 census, nearly doubling. It was named for Confederate Civil War officer John Pelham.

Hoover Metropolitan Stadium, also known as The Hoover Met, is a baseball stadium located in Hoover, Alabama, United States, a suburb of Birmingham. It was home of the Birmingham Barons of the Southern League from 1988 to 2012, replacing historic Rickwood Field in Birmingham. The stadium also serves as the home for the SEC baseball tournament, as well as the primary home for Hoover High School football. It is located in the Birmingham-Hoover Metropolitan Area near Interstate 459 at Exit 10 just off Alabama State Route 150. The stadium is located three miles from the Riverchase Galleria, one of the south's largest shopping centers. Its seating capacity is 10,800 for baseball and can accommodate up to 16,000 when the patio, banquet, and grassy side areas are used. The stadium also houses 12 suites and state-of-the-art dressing and training rooms. The stadium also features a meeting/banquet room named for Michael Jordan, who played for the Barons during his brief foray into professional baseball, during which time the stadium experienced its largest crowds for professional baseball. The opening daytime baseball game scene from Space Jam was filmed at this stadium. Its nighttime scene featuring the spaceship was filmed at Blair Field in Long Beach, California. The City of Hoover operates the stadium as part of the Hoover Met Complex, which includes the Finley Center indoor multi-sport facility, an outdoor complex of multi-sport and baseball/softball fields, a tennis complex with 16 hard courts, and an adjacent recreational vehicle (RV) park. The Hoover Met hosted the AVP Birmingham Open on July 13–16, 2006, the first beach volleyball tournament to ever be played in Alabama. The feature court was above the baseball diamond as well as eight other courts on the field, made of 222 tons of sand per court. The stadium also played host to the 2011 and 2012 NCAA Division I Men's Soccer Championship. Along with Birmingham city officials, the Barons announced plans in November 2010 to return to Birmingham with a new field to be constructed downtown, near the University of Alabama at Birmingham campus. Pending contract negotiations and construction, play at the new field was originally expected to begin with the 2012 season. Due to site selection, financing issues, and problems obtaining all of the land sought by the developers, the move was delayed until the 2013 season.Naming rights to The Met were purchased through the Barons by Regions Financial Corporation in 2007, resulting in the stadium being renamed Regions Park. On December 20, 2012 – following the Barons' exit – the City of Hoover announced it was changing the name of the ballpark back to its original name, Hoover Metropolitan Stadium, effective January 1, 2013. Regions continued its sponsorship of the Barons, and the team's new stadium in Birmingham became known as Regions Field. The Hoover Met hosted the Alabama Crimson Tide during the 2015 season while its on-campus stadium in Tuscaloosa, Sewell–Thomas Stadium, underwent major renovations. As part of the agreement, outfield fences were moved in to more closely match the dimensions of TD Ameritrade Park Omaha, home of the College World Series. The new configuration remained in place for the 2015 Southeastern Conference baseball tournament.The Hoover Met also hosted Softball at the 2022 World Games.

Oak Mountain Amphitheatre, formerly known as the Verizon Wireless Music Center, is an outdoor amphitheater, owned by Live Nation, located in Pelham, Alabama, USA, a few miles south of Birmingham. It is the largest outdoor music venue in Alabama.It is unusual in that it features three tiers of reserved seating, with no general admission seating area. John Mayer performed and recorded his show here, on September 12, 2002, which was later released as a CD/DVD, titled Any Given Thursday.

Acton is an unincorporated community in Shelby County, in the U.S. state of Alabama. It is partially located within the city of Hoover. It is not to be confused with the village of Acton, approximately 6+1⁄2 miles to the northeast in Jefferson County.

Hunter Street Baptist Church (established 1907) is a Baptist Church located in Hoover, Alabama, a suburb of Birmingham. It is affiliated with the Southern Baptist Convention. As of 2018, the church has a membership of approximately 4,500. The church is known for its motto "Hunter Street is not a building, but a people; people committed to God and to each other." The Pastor, Buddy Gray, preaches from the Bible. Adults grow in faith in Small groups and Bible studies. The Arts Academy offers music lessons, kids can play sports, and young children learn in Weekday Education. Dr. Buddy Gray is the senior pastor, having served since 1986. Gray previously served as the church's youth pastor from 1978-1980 while he was a student at Samford University.

Buck Creek is a 17.3-mile-long (27.8 km) tributary of the Cahaba River that was used to supply water power for manufacturing and industry during the 19th century. Its current use is primarily recreational and as a discharge point for municipal water treatment facilities.

Helena () is a city in Jefferson and Shelby counties in the state of Alabama. Helena is considered a suburb of Birmingham and part of the Birmingham-Hoover Metropolitan Area. As of 2022 the United States Census Bureau estimates the population to be 21,862. Helena is highly regarded as a place to live and raise children; Business Week ranked the city as the 13th "Best Place to Raise Your Kids" in 2007. It has the eighth-lowest crime rate per population in the U.S., and the city was ranked in Money magazine's 2007 list of "Best Places to Live: Top 100" in the U.S., placing at number 91. The Alabama League of Municipalities awarded Helena the 2008 Municipal Achievement Award (population 10,001 to 20,000).Helena initially incorporated in 1877, but reincorporated in 1917 after errors were discovered in the initial incorporation papers. Its population was not recorded separately in the U.S. Census until 1920, reflecting the later date of incorporation.
