Gråkallen

Bymarka is a large park and nature reserve on the west side of the city of Trondheim in Trøndelag county, Norway.

Våttahaugen is a small hill located on the Lade peninsula in Trondheim municipality in Trøndelag county, Norway. It is the highest point at Ladehammeren. The hill offers a scenic view of the surrounding area as well as other areas of the city of Trondheim and especially the coastal area along the Trondheimsfjord. There is a playground on Våttahaugen and the area is surrounded by a small forest which leads to the area of Grønnlia.During the World War II, Våttahaugen was a strategic location during the Nazi occupation of Norway. Våttahaugen was the site of a military installation and used as a site to control coastal traffic. Våttahaugen still has a lot of former bunker sites. Several of the houses around Våttahaugen were bombed during the war.

Storheia is the highest mountain in Bymarka in the municipality of Trondheim in Trøndelag county, Norway. The 565-metre (1,854 ft) tall mountain lies about 3 kilometres (1.9 mi) east of the village of Langørjan. On clear days, one can stand atop Storheia and see as far as the mountain Snøhetta, about 130 kilometres (81 mi) away. The smaller mountain Gråkallen lies just to the northeast.

Lian Station is the terminus of Gråkallbanen, the remaining part of the Trondheim Tramway in Trondheim, Norway. The Lian terminus serves as the main access point to the city's largest recreational area, Bymarka, which is west of Byåsen. The station was built for the third expansion of line and opened in 1933. Until 1947, the trams had to change direction at the station, but in that year a loop was built allowing the trams to continue back along the loop.

Ringvål is a village in the municipality of Trondheim in Trøndelag county, Norway. The village is located in the borough of Heimdal, at the mouth of the Gaula River between the urban areas of Heimdal and Spongdal.The 0.19-square-kilometre (47-acre) village has a population (2018) of 457 and a population density of 2,405 inhabitants per square kilometre (6,230/sq mi).

Trolla is a village in the municipality of Trondheim in Trøndelag county, Norway. It is located in the Midtbyen borough, along the Trondheimsfjord on the north coast of the Bymarka area. It is about 10 kilometres (6.2 mi) northeast of the village of Langørjan and about 4 kilometres (2.5 mi) northwest of the Ila neighborhood in the city of Trondheim. The 0.24-square-kilometre (59-acre) village has a population (2018) of 549 and a population density of 2,288 inhabitants per square kilometre (5,930/sq mi).

Lian is an recreational area located west of the city centre of Trondheim in Trøndelag county, Norway. It is situated on the border between the neighborhood of Byåsen and the forested area of Bymarka. The site came into popular recreational use in 1933 when the Gråkallen Line (Gråkallbanen) of the Trondheim Tramway was extended. Lian Station remains the terminus of Gråkallbanen.With the arrival of the tramway, a ski jump was built and Lian Restaurant was opened at the end of the line. The area became a primary location for winter sports in the city. Lianvannet was an important swimming place during the summer and was also possible to rent row boats. A dancing area was also built. From 1925, the frozen lake was used for harness racing, with up to 6,000 watchers. In 1927, A/S Graakalbanen offered the trotting association 100 hectare of land for a harness racing course, although the association did not except the deal since the tramway was not yet built. Instead they established Leangen Travbane at Leangen. During World War II, the new field was confiscated by the German occupation forces.The area around Lian has many cabins and some houses. About sixty cabins are illegally permanently occupied; only those buildings occupied from before 1967 may legally be permanently lived in. In 2008, the city suggested giving an amnesty for those who live in illegal houses, but have suggested changing reconstruction regulations for all houses in the area. This will in essence decrease the house value of legal housing (which come under restrictions) to illegal housing (which now may be sold as permanent housing). This created a local controversy.

Granåsen Ski Centre (in Norwegian: Granåsen skisenter) is a winter sport venue located in Trondheim, Norway. Granåsen Ski Centre frequently hosts competitions arranged by FIS; Ski jumping World Cup and Continental Cup, Nordic combined World Cup and has hosted events in the Cross-Country World Cup on five occasions and Biathlon World Cup on one occasion. The FIS Nordic World Ski Championships 1997 took place at Granåsen.

Granåsen is a ski jumping hill, located in Granåsen Ski Centre in Trondheim, Norway. The hill frequently hosts World Cup and Continental Cup competitions arranged by FIS and also hosted the FIS Nordic World Ski Championships 1997. The hill sports one normal sized hill (K-90) and one large hill (K-124).Before the 2008/2009 season the hill was improved, and the K-spot is now located at 124 meters while the hill size has been increased to 140 meters. The hill record belongs to Kamil Stoch, who jumped 146 m in March 2018 during the World Cup competition.

The Gaula is a river that flows through the Gauldal valley in Trøndelag county, Norway. The 153-kilometre (95 mi) long river is the largest in Central Norway. The river begins in Holtålen municipality near the mountain Kjølifjellet. It then flows through the municipalities of Holtålen, Midtre Gauldal, and Melhus before emptying into Trondheimsfjord near Leinstrand on the border between the municipalities of Trondheim and Melhus.The Gaula River is approximately 152.8 kilometres (94.9 mi) long and it drains a watershed of about 3,661 square kilometres (1,414 sq mi). On its way, it is joined by one large tributary, the Sokna, at the village of Støren in Midtre Gauldal. Other smaller tributaries include the Rugla, Hesja, Holda, Forda, and Bua. The average flow of water is about 97 m3/s (3,400 cu ft/s).Within the Gaula River, there are two well known waterfalls called Gaulfoss close to the village of Hovin and the Eggafoss near the village of Haltdalen.In 2005, the Gaula was named the best salmon fishing river in Norway with a catch of 37.5 tonnes (36.9 long tons; 41.3 short tons) that year. In 2008, it had a catch of 42.5 tonnes (41.8 long tons; 46.8 short tons). The Gaula is consistently listed among the top 5 salmon fishing rivers in Norway.

Nordstern (en: "North Star"), sometimes referred to as Neu Drontheim (en: "New Trondheim"), was the Nazi plan for the creation of a new German metropolis in German-occupied Norway during World War II. It was planned to have a population of around 250,000–300,000 inhabitants.The building site of the city was located 15–20 km (9.3–12.4 mi) southwest of the Norwegian city of Trondheim. Because of the significant strategic importance of Trondheim Fjord to the German military, it was to be constructed in conjunction with a major navy and military base that would give Germany unprecedented maritime control over the North Atlantic area, a move strongly supported by Großadmirals Erich Raeder and Karl Dönitz.German leader Adolf Hitler envisioned the city as "a German Singapore", and it became one of his favorite architectural projects. During the war itself, the port city was already turned into a major base for German U-boat submarines, Dora I.

Trondheim Airport, Øysand (Norwegian: Trondheim flyplass, Øysand) was a military air base situated at Øysand in Melhus, Norway. Established by Luftwaffe in 1940, remained in use throughout the Second World War, until 1945. The airfield consisted of a runway made of wooden frames filled with sand 1,800 by 60 meters (5,910 by 200 ft). The airport was little used and only a squadron of meteorological observation aircraft where stationed there. Its main role thus remained as a backup of the larger air stations of Ørland and Værnes. Øysand was proposed as the site to build the German exclave Nordstern, but the plans never materialized.
