Virginia Avenue District is a national historic district located at Indianapolis, Indiana. The district encompasses 43 contributing buildings and 1 contributing structure in the Fountain Square Commercial Areas of Indianapolis. It developed between about 1871 and 1932, and notable buildings include the Sanders (Apex) Theater (1913), Southside Wagon and Carriage Works / Saffel Chair Company (1875, c. 1916), Fountain Square Theater (1928), Woessner Building (1876, 1915), Granada Theater (1928), Southside Theater (1911), Schreiber Block (1895), Fountain Square State Bank (1922), and Fountain Bank (1902).: 29–31 It was listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 1983.

Fountain Square (abbreviated as FSQ) is one of seven designated cultural districts in Indianapolis, Indiana. Located just outside the city's downtown district, Fountain Square is home to three designated national historic districts, the Laurel and Prospect, the State and Prospect, and the Virginia Avenue districts, all of which were listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 1983. The neighborhood derives its name from the successive fountains that have been prominently featured at the intersection of Virginia Avenue, East Prospect Street, and Shelby Street.Fountain Square is the first commercial historic district in Indiana, and it is the only portion of the city outside the initial mile square that has continually operated as a recognized commercial area since the 1870s. Its significance is not only as an early commercial district, but additionally as one developed and dominated by German-American immigrants, merchants, and entrepreneurs, who established a strong German character on the city's southside. From the 1920s to the 1950s, Fountain Square was the city's main entertainment district, with as many as seven theaters in operation at one point in time.After the construction of the interstate through Indianapolis, a portion of Fountain Square was demolished, with the remaining neighborhood disconnected from the surrounding areas. After decades of population decline, the neighborhood is estimated to have 9,839 inhabitants. Historic preservation efforts began in the late 1990s, and the neighborhood slowly re-emerged as a vibrant commercial center. Today, Fountain Square is widely considered to be Indianapolis's newest trendy neighborhood, with an eclectic mix of retro architecture and modern, urban design.

The Fountain Square Theatre is a theater in Indianapolis, Indiana that now houses restaurants, bars, a hotel, duckpin bowling, as well as the original theater. Construction of the building was completed on Friday, May 4, 1928, with an original capacity of 1,500. It hosted a variety of entertainment including moving pictures and live vaudeville shows which included a full orchestra pit and Marr-Colton organ. The Theatre had its official opening on Saturday, May 5, 1928, and was noted for its Italian themed interior. Fountain Square Recreation, a bowling alley and billiard hall, was located on the fourth floor. Frank Baldwin Hunter of Indianapolis was the architect.

The Wheeler–Schebler Carburetor Company was one of the Indianapolis's most important auto parts manufacturers and the last automobile parts factories in Indianapolis, Indiana to survive from the first decades of the 20th century. The Wheeler–Schebler Carburetor Company Building was the company's original building at the Barth Avenue site. It was added to the National Register of Historic Places in 2004.

The Idle is a public park overlooking the I-65 and I-70 interstate interchanges in Indianapolis, Indiana. The park is located right off the Indianapolis Cultural Trail on Virginia Avenue, directly in-between the city's Fletcher Place and Fountain Square neighborhoods, which themselves are geographically separated by I-65.The concept behind The Idle was conceived in 2013, through the vision of Tom Battista, a local Indianapolis property developer and entrepreneur. It was partially funded through Patronicity, a crowdfunding website which raised $48,462. Through a match, the Indiana Housing and Community Development Authority had contributed an additional $41,000. Since the park is located on federal highway land, its creation required cooperation between the Federal Highway Administration, the Indiana Department of Transportation, and the Indianapolis Department of Public Works.The park features an accessible limestone trail leading to a viewing platform, which is furnished with seats salvaged from the city's former Bush Stadium. It also features native vegetation, repurposed ash tree benches, as well as informative signage explaining the area's history and concept behind the project.

Laurel and Prospect District is a national historic district located at Indianapolis, Indiana. The district encompasses three contributing buildings in the Fountain Square Commercial Areas of Indianapolis. It developed between about 1871 and 1932, and notable buildings include the Mangold / Roepke Saloon (1885, 1910) and Buddenbaum Grocery (1879).: 32 It was listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 1983.

Horace Mann Public School No. 13 is a historic school building located at Indianapolis, Indiana. It was designed by architect Edwin May (1823–1880) and built in 1873. It is a two-story, square plan, Italianate style red brick building. It has an ashlar limestone foundation and a low hipped roof with a central gabled dormer. A boiler house was added to the property in 1918.: 2–3 It was listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 1986. It is located in the Holy Rosary-Danish Church Historic District.

Fountain Square Academy was a free public charter school for grades 6–12 in Indianapolis, Indiana. It offered a "Middle College" program that allowed qualifying high school students to take college courses for college credit at Ivy Tech Community College at no additional cost while still enrolled in high school.The school was closed after the 2011–2012 school year when Greg Ballard, the mayor of Indianapolis, declined, in March 2011, to renew its charter due to lack of academic progress.

Fletcher Place is a historic district and neighborhood in the city of Indianapolis, Indiana named after Calvin Fletcher, a prominent local banker, farmer and state senator. The neighborhood is clearly defined by I-70/I-65 to the south and East Street to the west. The northern border of the neighborhood is along South Street, Lord Street, Fletcher Avenue, and Bates Street, depending on specific location. The eastern border of the neighborhood is Virginia Avenue in some places, while it is I-65 in a few spots, and Calvary Street in a few areas. Fletcher Place is surrounded by the Wholesale District to the north, Eli Lilly and Company to the west, Bates-Hendricks neighborhood to the south, and Fountain Square to the east and southeast. Fletcher Place is the home to a few of Indianapolis' keynote restaurants: Milktooth, Bluebeard, Iaria's Italian, Bosphorus Istanbul Cafe, and Dugout Bar. Additionally, Eli Lilly and Company and Anthem have their world headquarters bordering Fletcher Place, making it a magnet neighborhood for Indianapolis' health-care industry professionals.

Holy Rosary–Danish Church Historic District, also known as Fletcher Place II, is a national historic district located at Indianapolis, Indiana. The district encompasses 183 contributing buildings in a predominantly residential section located in the central business district of Indianapolis. It was developed between about 1875 and 1930, and include representative examples of Italianate, Gothic Revival, Tudor Revival, and Renaissance Revival style architecture. Located in the district is the separately listed Horace Mann Public School No. 13. Other notable buildings include the John Kring House (c. 1872), Trinity Danish Evangelical Lutheran Church (1872), John Wands House (1857), Henry Homburg House (c. 1870), Samuel Keely House (c. 1870), Maria Wuensch Cottage (c. 1900), and Holy Rosary Catholic Church (1911-1925).It was listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 1986.

The Bates–Hendricks neighborhood is situated just south and east of the downtown commercial district of Indianapolis, Indiana. The Fountain Square business district is just to the east. Access to the neighborhood from the north is by way of East Street, while Terrace Street off of Madison Avenue enters the neighborhood from the west and Prospect Street offers access from Fountain Square.

The Latin School of Indianapolis served from 1955 to 1978 as a pre-seminary boys' high school for the Roman Catholic Archdiocese of Indianapolis. In its first two academic years, the Latin School operated as part of Cathedral High School, an all-boys Catholic high school founded in 1918. The first class had 24 boys enrolled. During those two years, the school was named the Cathedral Latin School. In its third academic year, the Latin School moved into dedicated facilities, consisting of four classrooms attached to the Holy Rosary Church at 520 Stevens Street. The name was changed to Bishop Bruté Latin School after Simon Bruté, the first Bishop of the Diocese of Vincennes, which at the time included all of Indiana.Father Joseph D. Brokhage (S.T.D., ordained 1939, Monsignor 1964) served as both rector of the school and pastor of Holy Rosary parish. Under his leadership, the school grew steadily and added a large wing of classrooms, a recreation room and a gymnasium/auditorium along Stevens Street. An ambitious program was launched in 1963 to build a group of dormitories for out-of-town students. This plan was only partially carried out. The first dormitory, Dugan Hall, was built with funds provided by the Latin School Foundation, a foundation started by the District Council of Catholic Men. Dugan Hall was named for Msgr. Henry Dugan, who had been a member of the advisory board when the school was founded.
