Kirk Hammerton

St John the Baptist Church, Kirk Hammerton is a Grade I listed Church of England church located in the village of Kirk Hammerton, North Yorkshire, England. It is notable for its complete, mid tenth century Anglo-Saxon tower, and parts of the 9th century church (the original Anglo-Saxon chancel and nave) which now form the south aisle of the present church, the remainder of which dates from later periods (Norman and beyond). It lies within the Diocese of Leeds in the Lower Nidderdale Parish. The church has links with Kirk Hammerton Church of England Primary School in the village.

It is situated on the A59 road, 8 miles (13 km) west of York and 10 miles (16 km) east of Harrogate. Along with nearby Kirk Hammerton, the village is served by Hammerton railway station on the Harrogate line.(H)ambretone, a place-name reflected now both in Kirk Hammerton ('Hammerton with the church', from Old Norse kirkja 'church') and in Green Hammerton ('Hammerton with the green', from Middle English grene), is first attested in the Domesday Book of 1086. The name seems to derive from the Old English plant-name hamor (whose meaning is not certain but might include hammer-sedge or pellitory of the wall) + tūn 'settlement, farm, estate'.The village has a Church of England parish church, St Thomas' Church (see 'External Links' below for a survey of burials in the churchyard) and a church primary school, both located in the centre of the village. The former Congregational church in Green Hammerton, originally built as a Methodist Chapel in the late 1790s, was adapted for use as a Roman Catholic Church, St Josephs, in 1961.The village pub is the Bay Horse Inn. Green Hammerton Village Hall opened in April 2010: it is run by the Green Hammerton Recreational Charity.Green Hammerton comes under the Ouseburn ward, of Harrogate District Council, the Ainsty division of North Yorkshire County Council and the Selby and Ainsty parliamentary constituency.

Maltkiln is a proposed new village development centred around Cattal railway station in North Yorkshire, England. The development is just south of the A59 road, with the railway from Harrogate to York running through the middle of the new village. Originally set for 4,000 homes and suitable amenities for the size of the development, one of the landowners pulled out of the scheme in 2023, requiring a reassessment, which scaled down the number of homes to 3,000.

Tockwith is a village and civil parish in the Harrogate district of North Yorkshire, England, near the town of Wetherby and the city of York. There has been a village on the site since at least 1086 when Tocvi was mentioned in the Domesday Book. Tockwith's greatest claim to fame is being used as a staging post by Oliver Cromwell prior to the Battle of Marston Moor in 1644. He made reference to Tockwith in his diaries, in which he said: "If heaven should be half as blessed as the fields of Tockwith, all those who should pass St. Peter's Gate shall be met with joys unequalled".

Cattal is a railway station on the Harrogate Line, which runs between Leeds and York via Harrogate. The station, situated 10+1⁄2 miles (17 km) west of York, serves the village of Cattal, Borough of Harrogate in North Yorkshire, England. It is owned by Network Rail and managed by Northern Trains. Cattal is at the western end of a dual track section from Hammerton. Trains heading east towards York are timetabled to arrive first on the dual track section, in order to clear the single-track line heading west towards Harrogate. The level crossing here still has manually-operated metal gates and a ground-level signal box. The station buildings are now privately owned. In 2022-2023 the most popular origin/destination station from Cattal was York with 24,076 journeys to/from York (37.4% of all journeys).

Cattal is a village and civil parish in the Borough of Harrogate district of North Yorkshire, England, about 6 miles (9.7 km) east of Knaresborough, and is located 12 miles (19 km) west of the city of York. Cattal is located on the River Nidd. Despite being a small village it is served by Cattal railway station on the Harrogate line (operated by Northern); the railway station generally provides an hourly service to the nearby cities of York and Leeds. The village has one pub, The Victoria which is located close to the railway station and close to the village. Cattal has good transport links to the nearby cities of York and Leeds as it is located just 1-mile (1.6 km) east of the A1(M) motorway this road also connects Cattal with much of south-east England including London. It's also just off the A59 which connects north-east England to the north-west, including Liverpool.

Wilstrop is a civil parish about 8 miles (13 km) west of York, in the Harrogate district, in the county of North Yorkshire, England. In 2001 the parish had a population of 44, and in 2015 the population was estimated at 60. There is no modern village in the parish. The site of the deserted medieval village of Wilstrop lies near the River Nidd on the northern boundary of the parish.The parish touches Green Hammerton, Kirk Hammerton, Long Marston, Moor Monkton, Nun Monkton and Tockwith. Wilstrop shares a parish council with Tockwith called "Tockwith with Wilstrop Parish Council".

Whixley is a village and civil parish in the Harrogate district of North Yorkshire, England. It is near the A1(M) motorway and 10 miles (16 km) west of York. The ancient village of Whixley lies on Rudgate, the old Roman road along which the Roman “Hispania” Legion would have marched to nearby Isurium (Aldborough).

Queen Ethelburga's Collegiate incorporates four boarding and day schools for girls and boys from 3 months to 19 years old, located in Thorpe Underwood, near Little Ouseburn, close to York and Harrogate, England. Queen Ethelburga's College has three sections: the Chapter House preparatory school, King's Magna middle school, and a Key Stage 4 (GCSE) and Sixth Form (A-Level) section. In 2011 the parish had a population of 793. The parish touches Aldwark, Green Hammerton, Kirby Hall, Linton-on-Ouse, Little Ouseburn, Nun Monkton and Whixley. Thorpe Underwoods shares a parish council with Little Ouseburn and Kirby Hall called "Little Ouseburn Grouped Parish Council".
