Ukrainian Village (also known as Little Ukraine or the Ukrainian East Village) is a Ukrainian-American ethnic enclave in the East Village neighborhood of Manhattan, New York City. Centered around East 7th Street between Second Avenue and Avenue A, the neighborhood has been a spiritual, political, and cultural center for Ukrainian Americans in New York City since the late 19th century. Ukrainian immigration to the area began in the 1870s, with the first Ukrainian Catholic church established in 1905. The neighborhood experienced its most significant growth following World War II, when approximately 60,000 displaced persons and refugees settled in the area, establishing numerous cultural institutions, churches, schools, and businesses. At its peak, Ukrainian Village was one of the most vibrant Ukrainian communities outside of Ukraine itself. Since the 1990s, the neighborhood has experienced significant gentrification, leading to the closure of many historic Ukrainian businesses and the dispersal of much of the residential Ukrainian population to other parts of New York City. Despite these changes, Ukrainian Village maintains several important cultural institutions including St. George Ukrainian Catholic Church, the Ukrainian Museum, and the Shevchenko Scientific Society. Today, about one-third of New York City's approximately 80,000 Ukrainian Americans maintain connections to the neighborhood.

Meserich Shul or Meseritz Shul, also known as Edes Israel Anshei Mesrich, Edath Lei'Isroel Ansche Meseritz or Adas Yisroel Anshe Mezeritz ("Community of Israel, People of Mezertiz"), is a 1910 Orthodox synagogue in the East Village of Manhattan, New York City. It was built by a congregation established in 1888 consisting of immigrants from Międzyrzec Podlaski, a city in Biała Podlaska County, Lublin Voivodeship, Poland which was known as a center of Jewish learning. It was designed by Herman Horenburger in the Neo-Classical style, and is located at 415 East 6th Street between Avenue A and First Avenue.Pesach (Paul) Ackerman served as Rabbi from 1969 until his death on June 14, 2013.

The Knitting Factory is a nightclub in New York City that features eclectic music and entertainment and is co-owned and co-operated by Knitting Factory Entertainment. After opening in 1987, various other locations were opened in the United States. The Knitting Factory gave its audience poetry readings, performance art, standup comedy, and musicians who transcended the usual boundaries of rock and jazz, often experimental music. The Knitting Factory owners distributed some performances to radio stations, and around 1990 starting a radio show and the record label Knitting Factory Works. Later the founders started Knitting Factory Records in 1998.

King Tut's Wah Wah Hut was a club and experimental theater space in the Lower East Side of New York City, operating in the mid-1980s and 1990s at 112 Avenue A at 7th Street.Among the acts presented at the club were Dancenoise (which curated a regular performance series there), Carmelita Tropicana and Blue Man Group.In July 2015, the Whitney Museum of American Art commissioned one of the original designers of the club, Tom Berry, to create a temporary King Tut's Wah Wah Hut in its lobby for use as a theater in connection with its retrospective of the work of Dancenoise.The music venue in Glasgow, Scotland took its name from the New York City club.

It is operated by Ray Alvarez and serves an eclectic mix of foods, including egg creams, soft serve ice cream, frozen yogurt, New Orleans style beignets, Belgian fries, and coffee. The store has been featured in several books, films, and television shows. It's also become famous for its annual Birthday Burlesque Extravaganza, an invite-only surprise birthday party held in honor of the proprietor.
