Raul Yzaguirre Schools for Success (RYSS) is a state charter school system in Texas. The organization operates two schools in Texas; one is in Brownsville, and one is in Houston. The Tejano Center for Community Concerns, which operates the charter school system, has its headquarters in the RYSS campus in Houston. The Houston school has grades PK-12 in elementary, middle, and high school divisions while the Brownsville school is K-8.The school system was named after Raul Yzaguirre, the founder of the National Council of La Raza. Richard Farias, the founder, borrowed $90,000 so he could open the school. The Houston campus originally was located in the Latino Learning Center. In 1996 the school had 100 students. In 1997 the enrollment doubled to 200. The school, which had a mostly Hispanic student body, had grades 6 through 8. Farias planned to expand the school to K-12. In 2002 the Brownsville campus was established.As of 2019 the system had 1,299 students, with 981 combined in Houston and 349 in Brownsville.Farias believed that middle school students need individual attention and are not well served by larger middle schools.

Thai Xuan Village (Vietnamese: Làng Thái Xuân) is a multi-family condominium complex in southeastern Houston, Texas. It is located in proximity to Hobby Airport. It houses a large Vietnamese immigrant population.

Charles H. Milby High School is a public secondary school at 1601 Broadway in the East End, Houston, Texas, United States. It serves grades 9 through 12, and is a part of the Houston Independent School District. Milby is located inside the 610 Loop in southeast Houston. The school contains Houston ISD's Science Institute Magnet Program. As of 2018, the school's principal administrator is Ruth Ruiz. Milby also has HISD's high school program for deaf students.In 2014, J. Howard Johnston and Ronald Williamson described Milby's neighborhood as "one of the most impoverished parts of Houston".

Gulfgate Center, also known as Gulfgate Shopping City or Gulfgate Center, is a shopping center located in the East End, Houston, Texas, United States. The mall is located northwest of the intersection of the Gulf Freeway and Interstate 610. This is not an indoor shopping mall, it is a center of individual retail stores.

Pecan Park is a neighborhood in Houston, Texas. Pecan Park is located approximately 6 miles (9.7 km) south of downtown Houston inside Interstate 610, known as "The Loop", to the east of Interstate 45 in the East End, Houston area. The name Pecan Park generally refers to the larger neighborhood, of which there are over 30 individual subdivisions, with Pecan Park being the largest. The typical size of the lots is 5,000 square feet (460 m2) and the average size of the homes is 1,100–1,600 square feet (100–150 m2). The Gulfgate Center, formerly the Gulfgate Mall, is located just south of the Gulf Freeway from Pecan Park. The neighborhood is served by the Pecan Park Civic Association. This area also includes Ingrando Park, home of Dixie Little League. It also has a local library, the Lucille Yvonne Melcher branch of the Houston Public Library system.

César E. Chávez High School is a secondary school located at 8501 Howard Drive in the Allendale neighborhood in Houston, Texas, United States.The school is part of the Houston Independent School District, and serves grades nine through twelve. Chavez serves several areas outside the 610 Loop in southeast Houston, including the neighborhoods of Glenbrook Valley, Gulf Freeway Oaks, and Park Place. Chavez High School serves a mainly Hispanic population located near Hobby Airport. The school is named for civil rights activist Cesar E. Chavez. HISD's Environmental Science magnet program is offered at Chavez. The school's principal (as of June 2019) is Dr. Luis Landa. The "Lobo" (Spanish for "wolf") is the school's official mascot. The school became an International Baccalaureate school which started offering Diploma Programme classes in 2017-2018.

Harrisburg (originally Harrisburgh, shortened to Harrisburg in 1892) is a community now located within the city of Houston, Texas. The community is located east of downtown Houston, south of the Brays Bayou and Buffalo Bayou junction, and west of Brady's Island. It was founded before 1825 on the eastern stretches of the Buffalo Bayou in present-day Harris County, Texas, on land belonging to John Richardson Harris. In 1926, Harrisburg was annexed into the city of Houston. The original name of Harris County was Harrisburg (Harrisburgh) County until it was shortened after the demise of the City of Harrisburg. Historical markers at the John Richardson Harris site tell of General Santa Anna's razing the town as he chased Sam Houston and his retreating army just before they reached Lynch's ferry.

Manchester is a community in southeastern Houston, Texas, United States. Manchester has 6 square miles (16 km2) of area. It is located in close proximity to the Houston Ship Channel, and many chemical plants, refineries, and sewage facilities.

Cristo Rey Jesuit College Preparatory of Houston is a Roman Catholic secondary school located on 6700 Mount Carmel Drive in Houston, Texas, United States. It was founded by the New Orleans Province of the Society of Jesus and continues to be a sponsored work of the Jesuits. It is a part of the Cristo Rey Network and also affiliated with the Roman Catholic Archdiocese of Galveston-Houston. Father T. J. Martinez, S.J., was the founding president. The school was opened in August 2009, on the campus of the former Mount Carmel High School. Like other Cristo Rey schools, students help pay for their tuition through a work-study program. All 60 of the school's first senior class graduated and were accepted into colleges, from the University of Texas to Georgetown.Cristo Rey Jesuit, along with The Chinquapin School and Yellowstone Academy, is one of the few Greater Houston private schools that serve exclusively low income students. In 2016 the racial mix of the student body was: 78.3% Hispanic, 15.2% African American, and 3.5% mixed race.

The Sidney Sherman Bridge is a strutted girder bridge in Houston, Texas. It spans the Houston Ship Channel (Buffalo Bayou) and carries the East Loop segment of Interstate 610 on the east side of the city. It is more popularly known as the 610 Bridge or Ship Channel Bridge.

The Port of Houston is one of the world's largest ports and serves the metropolitan area of Houston, Texas. The port is a 50-mile-long complex of diversified public and private facilities located a few hours' sailing time from the Gulf of Mexico. Located in the fourth-largest city in the United States, it is the busiest port in the U.S. in terms of foreign tonnage and the busiest in the U.S. in terms of overall tonnage. Though originally the port's terminals were primarily within the Houston city limits, the port has expanded to such a degree that today it has facilities in multiple communities in the surrounding area. In particular the port's busiest terminal, the Barbours Cut Terminal, is located in Morgan's Point. The Port of Houston is a cooperative entity consisting of both the port authority, which operates the major terminals along the Houston Ship Channel, and more than 150 private companies situated along Buffalo Bayou and Galveston Bay. Many petroleum corporations have built refineries along the channel where they are partially protected from the threat of major storms in the Gulf of Mexico. The petrochemical complex associated with the Port of Houston is one of the largest in the world.

Mount Carmel Academy (MCA) is a secondary school located at 7155 Ashburn Street in the Garden Villas area of Houston, Texas, United States. Mount Carmel is a contract charter school of the Houston Independent School District. Mount Carmel Academy was established in 2008 to serve students formerly attending Mount Carmel High School, a Catholic school of the Roman Catholic Archdiocese of Galveston-Houston that closed in 2008.
