Emerson Hall (Indiana University)

Indiana Medical College (1869–1905) was a medical school founded in Indianapolis, Indiana, United States. It eventually merged and became the School of Medicine of Purdue University (1905–1907), followed by another merge in 1908 into Indiana University School of Medicine. The former campus no longer exists, and the land was used to build Emerson Hall at Indiana University. It was also known as the Medical College of Indiana for one year starting in 1878.

The Van Nuys Medical Science Building is located on the IUPUI Campus as part of the IU Medical Center. The building serves as an academic and research facility for the IU School of Medicine providing significant laboratory space for the campus. Originally, the building served to consolidate academic laboratory functions on the campus into a singular facility and provide space for the creation of a more robust medical library. Upon completion, the building provided new research space for Robert W. Long Hall, William H. Coleman Hall, Fesler Hall, Willis D. Gatch Hall, and Emerson Hall. The building is located just north of Emerson Hall and University Hospital, and adjacent to the Medical Research and Library Building.

Fesler Hall is located on the western end of Indiana University Indianapolis campus as part of the IU Medical Center. The building was the former site of the Indiana State Board of Health headquarters until being occupied by Indiana University in 1949. During the board of health's occupation, the building served as a hub for public health outreach and education programs in cooperation with the Indiana University School of Medicine. Indiana University used the building as a new center for clinical programs located on the campus to compensate the growing medical student population. Fesler Hall is located in a cluster of medical facilities that include the Eugene and Marilyn Glick Eye Institute, William H. Coleman Hall, Robert W. Long Hall, Willis D. Gatch Hall, and the School of Nursing Building.

Willis D. Gatch Hall, shortened to Gatch Hall, was constructed as an addition for the former Robert W. Long Hospital. Gatch Hal served as additional space for outpatient services, clinical services, and imaging services. Following the construction of University Hospital and the reorganization of medical services on the IU Medical Center, Gatch Hall would transition to an academic center supporting the School of Allied Health, Division of Nuclear Medicine, and Department of Radiology. The building continues to serve as an academic center for various divisions and departments within the IU School of Medicine. Gatch Hall was one of the early buildings on the IU Medical Center alongside Fesler Hall, Emerson Hall, and Coleman Hall. The Eugene and Marilyn Glick Eye Institute and the School of Nursing Building are more recent additions to the IU Medical Center cluster.

Chimney is a brick sculpture which contains multiple architectural and sculptural elements, and is part of a larger, more open plaza designed for children. It is located outside the lobby atrium of the Riley Hospital for Children.

The plaza of the Indiana University-Purdue University Indianapolis campus was created in 1986 as part of the $56 million expansion to the Riley Hospital for Children. Three different areas in the plaza include artworks of faces, including an archway, a brick wall, and a carved tree stump.

Robert W. Long Hall is located on the IU Medical Center as part of the Indiana University Indianapolis campus. The building houses various departments from the Indiana University School of Medicine (IUSOM). The Robert W. Long Hospital was the first hospital constructed on the university campus that served as a training institution for medical students in Indianapolis. Long Hall served as one of the early focal points for the growth of the IUSOM with many buildings including the first medical school building, Emerson Hall. Other early buildings included Willis D. Gatch Hall, William H. Coleman Hall, and Fesler Hall. Newer buildings constructed in the cluster include the School of Nursing Building and the Eugene and Marilyn Glick Eye Institute.

Indiana University Health University Hospital is a teaching hospital in Indianapolis, Indiana, United States, affiliated with the Indiana University School of Medicine and Indiana University Health. With nearly 1,100 physician faculty members at Indiana University Health University Hospital, physicians, surgeons, nurses and staff care for more than 57,000 patients a year. Approximately 52 percent of physicians in Indiana were trained at Indiana University Health University Hospital. In addition, Indiana University Health University Hospital physicians and staff continuously seek advances in medicine. The staff actively participate in approximately 150 clinical and prevention trials to provide optimal patient treatments.As part of Indiana University Health, the hospital works closely with nearby Indiana University Health Methodist Hospital and Riley Hospital for Children at Indiana University Health. The Indiana University Health University Hospital Emergency Department closed on June 30, 2014, with its adult emergency room care services moving to the Indiana University Health Methodist Hospital Emergency Medicine and Trauma Center.

The Indiana University School of Medicine (IUSM) is a major multi-campus medical school located in the US state of Indiana. There are nine campuses throughout the state; the principal research, educational, and medical center is located on the Indiana University–Purdue University Indianapolis (IUPUI) campus in Indianapolis. With 1,436 MD students and 200 PhD students in 2021, IUSM is one of the largest medical schools in the United States. The school offers many joint-degree programs including an MD-PhD Medical Scientist Training Program in a partnership with Purdue University's Weldon School of Biomedical Engineering. It is the medical school with the largest number of graduates licensed in the United States per a 2018 Federation of State Medical Boards survey with 11,828 licensed physicians.The school has pioneered research in multiple specialties, including oncology, immunology, substance use, neuroscience, and endocrinology. Research discoveries include a curative therapy for testicular cancer, the development of echocardiography, the identification of several genes linked to Alzheimer's disease, and the creation of inner ear sensory cells from pluripotent stem cells.In the 2021 U.S. News & World Report rankings of the best graduate schools for medicine, the school ranked 20th in the nation for primary care and 47th for research out of about 150 medical schools. In the U.S. News & World Report rankings of the best hospitals, the Indiana University Health Medical Center had seventeen nationally ranked clinical programs. The Riley Hospital for Children at Indiana University Health is nationally ranked in 9 of 10 designated specialties for children in the U.S. News & World Report. The IU School of Medicine is also home to the Melvin and Bren Simon Comprehensive Cancer Center, a National Cancer Institute-designated Comprehensive Cancer Center.

The Department of Central Eurasian Studies, often abbreviated as CEUS, is a specialized academic department in the Hamilton Lugar School of Global and International Studies, at the Bloomington campus of Indiana University, in Bloomington, Indiana. Since its original formation in 1943 as a language-training program for the U.S. military, the department has become the sole independent degree-granting academic unit staffed with its own faculty dedicated to Central Eurasia in the country. Due to the department and the presence of several additional centers - the Inner Asian & Uralic National Resource Center, the Denis Sinor Research Institute for Inner Asian Studies, and the Center for Languages of the Central Asian Region - Indiana University currently hosts the premier program of Central Asian studies in the United States. CEUS is home to many notable scholars of Central Eurasian studies, past and present, including Christopher Beckwith, Yuri Bregel, Jamsheed Choksy, Devin Deweese, William Fierman, Gyorgy Kara, Nazif Shahrani, Denis Sinor, and Elliot Sperling. The department teaches many less commonly taught languages, including Azerbaijani, Kazakh, Kurdish, Pashto, Tajik, Turkmen, Uyghur, and Uzbek.

Open Eyes is an outdoor sculpture by American artist Don Gummer (born 1946). It is located on the Indiana University-Purdue University Indianapolis (IUPUI) campus, which is near downtown Indianapolis, Indiana, and is owned by the Eugene and Marilyn Glick Eye Institute. The 16' tall sculpture of cascading circular shapes with a colored glass center, is meant to show the range of colors that the human pupil can interpret.

DNA Tower, a public sculpture by American glass artist Dale Chihuly, is in the Morris Mills Atrium of the VanNuys Medical Science Building, on the campus of Indiana University-Purdue University Indianapolis (IUPUI), which is near downtown Indianapolis, Indiana. It was commissioned for the Indiana University School of Medicine through a gift from an anonymous donor and was dedicated on September 30, 2003.DNA Tower is 20.2 feet (6.2 m) tall and 4.7 feet (1.4 m) in diameter; its wooden base is 5.4 feet (1.6 m) in diameter.
