High Gate

Fairmont Senior High School, is a public high school in Fairmont, West Virginia. The current school building, built in 1928, is listed on the National Register of Historic Places. Serving grades nine through twelve, it is one of three high schools in Marion County, along with East Fairmont High School and North Marion High School.Fairmont High School (the school's original name) was established at the Second Ward Building in the late 1800s. The school relocated to 5th Street in 1905 and to Loop Park in 1929. The high school was an all-white school until the 1950s. The school offers a number of different extracurricular activities, such as marching band, a choir program, a theatre program, and a wide range of athletic opportunities. Notable alumni include Olympic gold medalist Mary Lou Retton, U.S. Air Force officer Frank Kendall Everest Jr., entrepreneur Jim Delligatti, business executive Heather Bresch, and several others.

East–West Stadium is a football stadium in Fairmont, West Virginia, United States, that is operated and owned by the Marion County Board of Education. The stadium was built in 1938 using Works Progress Administration funding. It is the home outdoor athletic facility for the city's two high schools, Fairmont Senior High School and East Fairmont High School, hosting each school's football, soccer, lacrosse, and track teams.

Pettyjohn was an unincorporated community in Marion County, West Virginia, United States. Founded by Captain David Morgan in 1776. The town had its own ferry, salt works, mail drop, trading post, and David built one of his many houses here.

The Fairmont Railroad Bridge is a truss bridge that carries the Norfolk Southern Railway across the Monongahela River just north of Fairmont, West Virginia. The bridge was built in 1853 as one of the early works of Albert Fink, the engineer who popularized the use of iron structures as opposed to those that are made of stone masonry or wood. It was reconstructed in 1912 and continues to serve as a major industrial route.

The Third Street Bridge, officially known as the David Morgan Memorial Bridge, is a span that crosses the Monongahela River, in Fairmont, West Virginia. The bridge has a characteristic curve in it, and was built in 1979 in order to relieve some of the traffic from the Robert H. Mollohan-Jefferson Street Bridge after the Low Level Bridge had closed.

The West Fork River is a principal tributary of the Monongahela River, 103-mile (166 km) long, in north-central West Virginia, United States. Via the Monongahela and Ohio Rivers, it is part of the watershed of the Mississippi River, draining an area of 881 square miles (2,284 km²) on the unglaciated portion of the Allegheny Plateau.

Thomas W. Fleming House, also known as the Clubhouse of the Women's Club of Fairmont, is a historic home located at Fairmont, Marion County, West Virginia. It was built in 1901, and is a 2+1⁄2-story, U-shaped, stucco masonry building in a Colonial Revival / Beaux-Arts style. It has a rectangular central block that is joined at the rear by two short wings. It features rounded, glass-enclosed entrance solarium. It became the clubhouse of the Fairmont Woman's Club in 1938. Its builder, Thomas W. Fleming (1846-1937), served two terms as mayor of Fairmont and was elected to the House of Delegates in 1905.It was listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 1979.

Fairmont Normal School Administration Building is a historic school building located on the campus of Fairmont State University at Fairmont, Marion County, West Virginia. It was built between 1915 and 1917, and is a large three-story Classical Revival style building sited atop a hill overlooking Locust Avenue. Its light coated brick exterior walls are ornamented with limestone and terra cotta details. Its front features a portico with eight Ionic order columns with shafts made of Indiana Blue Limestone. The original building measured 265 feet by 65 feet; the west wing was added in 1927.The building was renamed Hardway Hall in 1989 for Wendell G. Hardway, a former president of Fairmont State College. It was listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 1994.

Fairmont is a city in and county seat of Marion County, West Virginia, United States. The population was 18,313 at the 2020 census, making it the eighth-largest city in the state. It is the principal city of the Fairmont micropolitan area, which includes all of Marion County in North Central West Virginia and had a population of 56,205 in 2020. Fairmont is also a principal city of the larger Morgantown–Fairmont combined statistical area.

The Fleming–Watson Historic District comprises 365 buildings and 1 structure of architecture significance on 84 acres (0.34 km2) in Fairmont, West Virginia. It is in two irregular sections separated by a ravine, approximately bounded by Fairmont Avenue, Second and Fay Streets, Apple Crescent, Green and Emerson Streets, Coleman Avenue, Ninth Street, and Outlook. High Gate, the James Edwin Watson House, also listed on the National Register of Historic Places, is located in the district.The district contains a variety of the architectural styles that were common from 1850 to 1951. It was listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 2001.

Fairmont Downtown Historic District is a national historic district located at Fairmont, Marion County, West Virginia. The district includes 97 contributing buildings and two contributing structures in Fairmont's central business district. They are in a variety of late 19th- and early 20th-century architectural styles. Notable buildings include the Watson Building (1909–1911), U.S. Court House and Post Office (1940), Monongahela Valley Traction Freight House (1927), the Jacobs and Hutchinson complex, and the Library (1914). The Marion County Courthouse and Sheriff's House and Robert H. Mollohan-Jefferson Street Bridge are located in the district and listed separately on the National Register of Historic Places.It was listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 1995.The Downtown Historic District is managed and preserved by the City of Fairmont Historic Preservation Review Commission.
