9 The Shambles is an historic building in the English city of York, North Yorkshire. The two-storey timber framed building was constructed in the 15th century. Both the upper floor and the attic are jettied to The Shambles. The building might originally have been of three bays, but only two survive, and it now adjoins two roughly built bays, dating from the 16th century. The whole roof at the front also dates from this period. A brick chimney breast dates from the 17th century, with a contemporary fireplace in the attic. In the 18th century, the level of the first floor was raised, and the front was pargetted.The building was grade II* listed in 1954, and was restored from 1955 onwards. Since 2007, the shop has been the W. Hamond jewellers, which specialises in Whitby jet.

41 and 42 The Shambles is a historic building in the city centre of York, in England. The building was constructed in the late 15th century, as a three-storey timber framed building on The Shambles. The upper storeys are jettied on both the Shambles and Little Shambles fronts. The ground floor was later rebuilt in brick, and the upper floors are rendered. Inside, the timber frame survives intact, including a crown post roof.The building was restored in 1950, and continues to serve as a shop and workshop. It was Grade II* listed in 1954.

In the late 15th century, a new three-storey building was constructed in front of the existing house. In the 16th century, the front part of the rear building was replaced with a two-storey building with attics, adjoining the front block.In the early 18th century, the building was refronted in brick, removing the jettying of the timber framed structure. The building was further altered in the 19th century. In the 20th century, work at the rear removed the last remnants of the building from 1400, and a new shopfront was added on the ground floor, facing onto The Shambles. 1 Little Shambles is an historic building in the English city of York, North Yorkshire. A Grade II listed building, it adjoins the rear of 41–42 Shambles and faces Shambles Market. A former house, dating to the 15th century, it was restored around 1950. It is timber-framed, with the ground floor walls made of orange-red brick in English garden-wall bond. Its upper floors are rendered. It has a pantile roof with a brick chimney stack. There are two doors on the Little Shambles elevation: one for the ground floor and one for the upper floors. As of 2023, the building is occupied by Parlormade Café and Scone House.

7–8 The Shambles is an historic pair of buildings in the English city of York, North Yorkshire. Grade II* listed buildings dating to the early and late 15th century, they are located in The Shambles.Number 8 is the older house, and was built in the early 1400s. It originally had one room on each of its three storeys, with a courtyard behind, but in the 16th century, the yard was infilled with a two-storey extension. In about 1700, the extension was reduced in length, and a further extension was added, which included a kitchen. In the 19th century, the level of the second floor was raised.Number 7 was built in the late 1400s, filling the space between number 8 and a now-demolished building. Like number 8, it is of three storeys, each of which is jettied. Each floor is divided into three rooms, one behind another, although the position of the partitions has been altered over time. In the 18th century, the rearmost bay of the building was shortened. Inside, there is a 17th century chimney breast, built of brick, and much of the original timber framing survives. The fireplace on the first floor is original.Both buildings have been converted into shops, with an office on the top floor. Since 2002, the shops have been occupied by Monk Bar Chocolatiers.

The Shambles is a historic street in York, England, featuring preserved medieval buildings, some dating back as far as the 14th century. The street is narrow, with many timber-framed buildings with jettied floors that overhang the street by several feet. It was once known as The Great Flesh Shambles, probably from the Anglo-Saxon Fleshammels (literally flesh-shelves), the word for the shelves that butchers used to display their meat. In 1885, thirty-one butchers' shops were located along the street, but now none remain.
