The Chenal Ecarté (The Snye) is a river in the municipalities of Saint Clair (Lambton County) and Chatham-Kent (formerly in Kent County) in Southwestern Ontario, Canada. It is a left distributary of the St. Clair River that flows to Lake St. Clair, and thus is part of the Great Lakes Basin. The river also separates mainland Ontario from the northeast edge of Walpole Island, and the entire eastern edge of St. Anne Island, which both are part of the Walpole Island 46 reserve of the Walpole Island First Nation.The creek begins at the St. Clair River in the municipality of Saint Clair at an elevation of 175 metres (574 ft), south of the community of Port Lambton. It flows southeast into Chatham-Kent, then turns south. The distributary Johnston Channel exits from the right bank towards Lake St. Clair. The river then turns south, sees the exit of the distributary Running Creek, then takes in the Sydenham River, turns southwest, and reaches its mouth at Lake St. Clair, at an elevation of 175 metres (574 ft). Lake St. Clair flows via the Detroit River to Lake Erie.

Walpole Island is an island and First Nation reserve in southwestern Ontario, Canada, on the border between Ontario and Michigan in the United States. It is located in the mouth of the St. Clair River on Lake St. Clair, about 121 kilometres (75 mi) by road from Windsor, Ontario and 124 kilometres (77 mi) from Detroit, Michigan.It is unceded territory and is inhabited by the Ojibwe, Potawatomi, and Odawa peoples of the Walpole Island First Nation, who call it Bkejwanong, meaning "where the waters divide" in Anishinaabemowin. In addition to Walpole Island, the reserve includes Squirrel Island, St. Anne Island (surrounded by Syme and Johnson Rivers), Seaway Island (except a small U.S. portion), Bassett Island, and Potawatomi Island. The river or creeks that separate these islands provide the area with its other commonly used name, Swejwanong or "many forks of a river."It is independent of, but within the geographic region of, Lambton County and adjoins the municipality of Chatham-Kent and the township of St. Clair. Across the St. Clair River to the west are the United States towns of Algonac, Michigan, and Clay Township. Harsen's Island, also unceded Anishinaabe territory, is now on the west side of the international border line. The border was redrawn in the 19th century following disputes between the United Kingdom and the United States; their governments were oblivious to the interests and rights of the Indigenous peoples living on and using these lands. As such, the First Nation is now trying to solve their grievances with the Crown with a specific claim. Walpole Island is known as the resting place of Tecumseh, prominent 19th-century leader of the Native American tribe known as the Shawnee.

Tupperville is a community on the Sydenham River in Chatham-Kent, Ontario, Canada and has a population of approx. 300 people. Tupperville was named after Canada's sixth Prime Minister Sir Charles Tupper. Tupperville is located in close proximity to 2 larger towns - Wallaceburg (pop. 11,000) and Dresden (pop. 4,000). Thirty minutes south of Tupperville is the City of Chatham-Kent (pop. 42,000) and forty minutes north is the City of Sarnia (pop. 70,500).

The Walpole–Algonac Ferry is a passenger and vehicle ferry connecting Walpole Island, Ontario, Canada, and Algonac, Michigan, United States, via the St. Clair River. It serves as a border crossing of the Canada–United States border. The ferry has existed in some form since at least 1922, and is currently operated by Walpole Algonac Ferry Ltd., a private company based in Canada. Since the closures of the Bluewater Ferry in 2018 and the Detroit–Windsor Truck Ferry in 2023, it is the only ferry operating between Michigan and Ontario.

Russell Island is a small private island in the St. Clair River in the U.S. state of Michigan between Algonac and Walpole Island, Ontario, Canada. It is immediately upriver from Sand Island which is itself immediately upriver from Harsens Island; it includes two smaller islands, Anderson Island on the northwest, and "The Gold Coast" on the southwest. The island, which is accessible only via passenger ferry or by private watercraft, contains about 150 cottages. There are no cars on the island; the only motorized vehicles are golf carts. Russell Island is part of Clay Township in St. Clair County and is an acceptable name for the Algonac ZIP code 48001, which serves most of the township on the mainland.

Pain Court (pronounced pan corr; often incorrectly spelled Paincourt) is a historically French-speaking agricultural village in southwestern Ontario, Canada, in the municipality of Chatham-Kent. It was established in 1854, as one of the earliest French-speaking settlements in southern Ontario. Pain Court was founded when English and French-speaking squatters from the Detroit, Michigan, area began to settle the indigenous lands along the lower Thames River in the region in the 1780s. It derived its name from the small loaves of bread which the impoverished parishioners offered to Roman Catholic missionaries.

The LeRoy Smith House is a private house, designed by Alden B. Dow, and located at 9503 Frank Street in Algonac, Michigan. It was listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 1996.

Algonac ( AWL-gə-nack) is a city in St. Clair County of the U.S. state of Michigan. The population was 4,196 at the 2020 census. Incorporated as a village in 1867 and again as a city in 1967, Algonac is located at the southern end of the St. Clair River and contains a long boardwalk and riverfront park. Algonac State Park is located just north of the city. The city is also notable for the founding and headquarters of the now-defunct Chris-Craft Boats company.

Harsens Island is a wet marshy location at the mouth of the St. Clair River on Lake St. Clair, in the U.S. state of Michigan. Politically, the island is in Clay Township of St. Clair County.

Port Lambton is an unincorporated community in St. Clair Township, Lambton County, Ontario, Canada. According to the latest census, 1084 people live within this community. In its early days, the village developed out of local transport and agricultural trade via rail and ship and evolved mainly into a summer resort community, serving seasonal residences and summer cottagers through much of its history. The village is now home to mostly permanent residences and commuters supported by larger cities and towns such as Sarnia and Wallaceburg. Every Civic Holiday weekend in August the town hosts its annual Gala Days. This community is served by two elementary schools, several churches, and a small service industry. The public school is Riverview Central School and the Catholic school is Sacred Heart. Until the mid-1980s Port Lambton served as a registered port of entry into Canada by utilizing a ferry crossing from nearby Roberts Landing, Michigan, and docking facilities on much of the village's waterfront. Following the ending of ferry operations at Port Lambton, the former port facility and Customs office located at the foot of Stoddard Street on the St. Clair River was transferred to the Department of Fisheries and Oceans. The federal government through the Canadian Coast Guard continues to operate the facility as a seasonal Inshore Rescue Boat Station.
