McFerson Commons

The Union Station arch is a 35 ft (11 m) Beaux-Arts arch standing at McFerson Commons Park in Columbus, Ohio. The work was designed by renowned architect Daniel Burnham, as part of a grand entranceway to the city's Union Station. It has intricate details, including Corinthian columns, multiple cornices and friezes, and statuary groups; some currently in storage. The arch and entrance arcade were designed in 1893 and completed by 1899. The arcade was listed on the National Register of Historic Places from 1974 to 1999. Nearly all of the arcade was demolished in 1976, and preservationists managed to save the single tall arch. It was moved to storage in 1977, and placed in a new park, Arch Park, which opened in 1980. A parking garage was built on the site, necessitating that the arch move to McFerson Commons in 1999. The arch now acts as a sculpture and architectural and historical relic.

The Ohio Penitentiary, also known as the Ohio State Penitentiary, was a prison operated from 1834 to 1984 in downtown Columbus, Ohio, in what is now known as the Arena District. The state had built a small prison in Columbus in 1813, but as the state's population grew the earlier facility was not able to handle the number of prisoners sent to it by the courts. When the penitentiary first opened in 1834, not all of the buildings were completed. The prison housed 5,235 prisoners at its peak in 1955. Conditions in the prison have been described as "primitive," and the facility was eventually replaced by the Southern Ohio Correctional Facility, a maximum security facility in Lucasville. During its operation, it housed several well-known inmates, including General John H. Morgan, who famously escaped the prison during the Civil War, "Bugs" Moran, O. Henry, Chester Himes, and Sam Sheppard, whose story is said to have inspired the movie The Fugitive. A separate facility for women prisoners was completed within the walls of the Ohio Penitentiary in 1837. The buildings were demolished in 1997.

The AEP Building is a 456 ft-tall (139 m) skyscraper in Downtown Columbus, Ohio. It was completed in 1983 and has 31 floors. Abramovitz, Harris & Kingsland designed the building following a modernist architectural style. The AEP Building is the 8th tallest building in Columbus. It has served as the headquarters of the American Electric Power (AEP) since they relocated from New York City in 1983. At the front of the building are two sculptures created by George Greenamyer. The turbine rotors came from the former Philo Power Plant in Philo, Ohio and the Twin Branch Power Plant in Mishawaka, Indiana.

Nationwide Arena is a multipurpose arena in Columbus, Ohio, United States. Since completion in 2000, the arena has served as the home of the Columbus Blue Jackets of the National Hockey League (NHL). It is one of two facilities in Columbus, along with Greater Columbus Convention Center, that hosts events during the annual Arnold Classic, a sports and fitness event hosted by actor, bodybuilder, and former Governor of California Arnold Schwarzenegger.

The Arena District is a mixed-use planned development and neighborhood in Columbus, Ohio. The site was developed through a partnership between Nationwide Realty Investors, Ltd. (a subsidiary of Nationwide), the City of Columbus and private investors. Interpretation of the boundaries of the district are evolving as the neighboring blocks around the original 75-acre (300,000 m2) site have seen additional commercial and residential development. The Arena District is named for Nationwide Arena.

The Brewery District, traditionally known as the Old German Brewing District, is a neighborhood located in Columbus, Ohio. Located just south of the central business district and west of German Village, it is bounded by Interstate 70 on the north, South Pearl Street on the east, Greenlawn Avenue on the south, and the Scioto River on the west.

Alexander Park, or Alexander AEP Park, is a park in Columbus, Ohio, United States. Donated by American Electric Power, the park is located between Battelle Riverfront Park and North Bank Park. It is named after former City Council President Arvin J. Alexander, and features a 1991 memorial in his honor by Carl Faehnle. The park also features a plaque marking the site of the city's first cabin, completed by John Brickell in 1797.

Flowing Kiss is an art installation consisting of two 2013 stainless steel sculptures by Lawrence Argent, installed in Columbus, Ohio, United States. According to The Sculpture Center's Outdoor Sculpture Inventory, the sculptures face one another, and "both are wide, rippling shape that narrows to lips ready for a kiss". They were installed in 2013.

American Electric Power (AEP), (railcar reporting mark: AEPX) is a major investor-owned electric utility in the United States, delivering electricity to more than five million customers in 11 states.AEP ranks among the nation's largest generators of electricity, owning nearly 38,000 megawatts of generating capacity in the U.S. AEP also owns the nation's largest electricity transmission system, a nearly 39,000-mile (63,000 km) network that includes 765 kilovolt ultra-high voltage transmission lines, more than all other U.S. transmission systems combined. AEP's transmission system directly or indirectly serves about 10 percent of the electricity demand in the Eastern Interconnection, the interconnected transmission system that covers 38 eastern and central U.S. states and eastern Canada, and approximately 11 percent of the electricity demand in the Electric Reliability Council of Texas, the transmission system that covers much of Texas. AEP's utility units operate as AEP Ohio, AEP Texas, Appalachian Power (in Virginia, West Virginia, and Tennessee), Indiana Michigan Power, Kentucky Power, Public Service Company of Oklahoma, and Southwestern Electric Power Company (in Arkansas, Louisiana and east Texas). AEP's headquarters are in Columbus, Ohio. American Electric Power was the first utility to utilize 345 kV transmission lines which took place in 1953. The company ranked 185th on the 2018 Fortune 500 of the largest United States corporations by revenue.

The Condominiums at North Bank Park is a 267 feet (81 m) tall residential high rise at 300 W. Spring St. in the Arena District just north of downtown Columbus, Ohio. It was constructed from 2006 to 2007 and has 20 floors and is one of the tallest structures in the city The building was developed by Nationwide Realty Investors, a development entity created by Nationwide Insurance which is headquartered nearby. Built as part of a development boom in the Arena District after the completion of Nationwide Arena, the $50 million building has 100 condominium units and ground-floor parking built into a re-developed warehouse and attached glass residential tower. The building saw slow sales during the Great Recession but following economic recovery, additional development has continued around the building.

The Father of Columbus Baseball is a bronze sculpture depicting Harold Cooper by Alan Hamwi, installed outside Huntington Park (whose predecessor stadium was in named in his honor for) in Columbus, Ohio's Arena District, in the United States. The statue was unveiled in 2009.

The Brickell Memorial is an outdoor 1930 monument commemorating Columbus, Ohio's first citizen, John Brickell, installed in Alexander AEP Park, in the United States.
