Maine Road

The Kippax was one of the best known and vocally active terraced stands at Manchester City's Maine Road ground. Originally the Popular Side when the stadium opened in 1923, its name was changed in 1956 when the club gained planning permission to build a roof to shield fans from the rain. It was named after Kippax Street which ran along this side of the ground. The Kippax was unusual in that, unlike at most other grounds, it occupied a full side rather than an end of the ground as with goal end terraces like Liverpool's Kop, Manchester United's Stretford End, Everton's Gwladys Street, Newcastle United's Gallowgate or Aston Villa's Holte End. In the summer of 1994, due to the Taylor Report, the Kippax was demolished. A new all seater stand was built in its place and opened by City legend Bert Trautmann in October 1995. It housed 10,178 seated fans, had three tiers and was at the time the highest stand in the country.The club left Maine Road in May 2003 and relocated to the City of Manchester Stadium. The old stadium was demolished in early 2004. Unofficially, the East Stand at the new stadium is also called The Kippax.

On Sunday, 12 August 2018, a mass shooting happened in the Manchester neighbourhood of Moss Side. It was the first mass shooting in the UK since the Cumbria shootings in 2010. The weapon used was believed by Greater Manchester Police to be a shotgun. There were no fatalities.

Moss Side is an inner-city area of Manchester, England, 1.9 miles (3.1 km) south of the city centre, It had a population of 18,902 at the 2011 census. Moss Side is bounded by Hulme to the north, Chorlton-on-Medlock, Rusholme and Fallowfield to the east, Whalley Range to the south, and Old Trafford to the west. As well as Whitworth Park and Alexandra Park, Moss Side is close to Manchester and Manchester Metropolitan universities. Manchester City played at Maine Road in Moss Side between 1923 and 2003.

Manchester Academy is a coeducational secondary school within the English Academy programme, in Moss Side, Manchester. It is situated on Moss Lane East (B5219), near Denmark Road, with the University of Manchester nearby to the north and the Whitworth Art Gallery to the east.

Christ Church in Lloyd Street North, Moss Side, Manchester, England, is an Anglican church of 1899–1904 by W. Cecil Hardisty. It was designated a Grade II* listed building on 24 April 1987.The church is of red brick in an "Arts and Crafts Perpendicular" style. Pevsner considered it Hardisty's "best (building) in Manchester". Decoration is concentrated on the west front, "where a bellcote sits roguishly on one shank of the gable". Most of the original furnishings have gone, although some replacement pieces have been brought in from demolished churches—such as the reredos from St Edward, Holbeck, Leeds.

Moss Lane Cricket Ground was a cricket ground in Moss Side, Manchester, Lancashire. The first recorded match on the ground was in 1864, when Manchester Cricket Club played Sheffield Cricket Club.In 1844, the ground held its inaugural first-class match when Manchester played Sheffield Cricket Club who were called Yorkshire on that occasion. From 1844 to 1846, the ground played host to four first-class matches, the last of which saw Manchester play Sheffield.The final recorded match on the ground came in 1847 when Manchester Slow Bowlers played Manchester Fast Bowlers. The ground was later developed, with St Mary's Church covering the site today.

Whitworth Park is a public park in south Manchester, England, and the location of the Whitworth Art Gallery. To the north are the University of Manchester's student residences known as "Toblerones". It was historically in Chorlton on Medlock but is now included in the Moss Side ward. The park, of some 18 acres (7.3 ha) opposite Manchester Royal Infirmary, was opened in 1890 on land known as Potters Field. The park was leased to the Corporation of Manchester by the Whitworth Trustees in October 1904 on a 1000-year lease for a nominal annual rent of £10. A statue of King Edward VII by John Cassidy on the east side, unveiled in 1913, commemorates the royal visit when the new Royal Infirmary was opened in 1909. The bronze statue, mounted on a square, stepped granite plinth and pedestal, is a grade II listed structure.

Holy Trinity Platt Church (also known as Holy Trinity Church, Rusholme), is in Platt Fields Park in Rusholme, Manchester, England. It is an active Anglican parish church in the deanery of Hulme, the archdeaconry of Manchester, and the diocese of Manchester. The church is recorded in the National Heritage List for England as a designated Grade II* listed building. It is the second "pot church" designed by Edmund Sharpe, so-called because the main building material used in the construction of the church is terracotta.

St Anselm Hall, known colloquially as Slems, is a traditional University of Manchester hall of residence situated in Victoria Park. It was founded in 1907 by Rev. Thomas B. Allworthy on behalf of the Church of England for the theological training of male students. The Hall was later licensed by the University of Manchester as an official hall of residence in 1954, extending the capacity of students from 70 to its current 130.The Hall remained an all-male institution until 2017 when female students were admitted for the first time. Prior to this, it was the last university-owned fraternal hall of residence in the UK. The Hall is formed of the Junior Common Room, made up of undergraduates, and the Senior Common Room, made up of the Tutors, the Warden, and university academics. There are currently a number of scholarships attached to the hall. Awarded on an annual basis, these both empower the hall's student leadership and reward exceptional contributions to hall life. It was announced in August 2020 that the hall would be closed for the academic year 2020–2021. The Hall's JCR (Junior Common Room) remains active, and plans are underway to reopen for the academic year 2021–2022.

Brunswick is an inner-city area of south Manchester, England, south of Manchester Piccadilly railway station and north of Manchester Royal Infirmary, between Manchester city centre to the north, Ardwick to the east, and Chorlton-on-Medlock to the south and west. It was historically part of Chorlton-on-Medlock and acquired its name from Brunswick Street which runs through it. Its western edge is dominated by campus buildings of Manchester University, east of Oxford Road, and its northern edge by the Mancunian Way. The campus buildings have all been built since 1957, and several large new buildings have appeared since the inauguration of the present University in 2004, such as University Place on the site of the former Mathematics Building. The local Church of England church is Christ Church, Brunswick. There was formerly an Anglican church of St Paul in Brunswick Street (corner of Higher Temple Street). St Paul's Church was built to a design by Clegg & Knowles in 1862; in 1878 it was lengthened and restored by Horton & Bridgeford.

The University Dental Hospital of Manchester is a dental facility in Manchester, England. It is managed by Manchester University NHS Foundation Trust.

The Whitworth is an art gallery in Manchester, England, containing about 55,000 items in its collection. The gallery is located in Whitworth Park and is part of the University of Manchester. In 2015, the Whitworth reopened after it was transformed by a £15 million capital redevelopment that doubled its exhibition spaces, restored period features and opened itself up to its surrounding park. The gallery received more than 440,000 visitors in its first year and was awarded the Art Fund's Museum of the Year prize in 2015.In June 2017, Maria Balshaw stepped down as the director to take up her new role as the director of the Tate. Nick Merriman was acting interim director of the Whitworth.On 11 October 2018 it was announced that Alistair Hudson would be the new director of the Manchester Art Gallery and the Whitworth. Hudson, previously director at the Middlesbrough Institute of Modern Art (MIMA), is a co-director of the Asociación de Arte Útil.
