Sturgeon River is a 40.8-mile-long (65.7 km) river in the U.S. state of Michigan, flowing mostly northward through Otsego and Cheboygan counties. The Sturgeon River rises in Livingston Township, Otsego County, near the city of Gaylord at 45°01′49″N 84°38′18″W. It flows into Burt Lake in the community of Indian River. A channel formerly flowed into the Indian River at 45°24′47″N 84°36′36″W, but the main course of the river now empties directly into Burt Lake.The West Branch Sturgeon River rises in southeast Charlevoix County at 45°07′49″N 84°47′55″W and flows 17.5 miles (28.2 km) to the main stream at 45°16′19″N 84°36′03″W in Wolverine.The Little Sturgeon River rises in Cheboygan County northeast of Wolverine at 45°17′55″N 84°33′37″W and flows north on a course generally parallel to the Sturgeon River. The mouth of the Little Sturgeon River is at 45°24′19″N 84°36′32″W on the former channel of the Sturgeon River that flows into the Indian River.With an average descent of 14 feet per mile, the Sturgeon River is the fastest river in Michigan's Lower Peninsula. The water is crystal-clear since it begins as a spring-fed stream. The average depth is 3–4 feet, however, there are deeper pools that can reach 5–8 feet, usually around the outside of bends.

Tuscarora Township is a civil township of Cheboygan County in the U.S. state of Michigan. The population was 3,038 at the 2010 census.

The Little Sturgeon River is a 12.3-mile-long (19.8 km) river in Cheboygan County, Michigan, in the United States. It is a tributary of the Indian River, part of the Mullett Lake/Cheboygan River system flowing to Lake Huron. The Little Sturgeon rises at the outlet of Corey Lake east of Wolverine. It flows north and joins the Indian River at the town of Indian River, east of the outlet of Burt Lake.

Indian River is an unincorporated community and census-designated place (CDP) in Cheboygan County in the U.S. state of Michigan. The population was 1,950 at the 2020 census. The CDP is located in Tuscarora Township between Burt Lake and Mullett Lake. As an unincorporated community, Indian River has no legal autonomy of its own but does have its own post office with the 49749 ZIP Code, which also serves small portions of several surrounding townships.

The North Central State Trail is a 62-mile (100 km) recreational rail trail serving a section of the northern quarter of the Lower Peninsula of the U.S. state of Michigan. Following a route generally parallel to Interstate 75, the trail goes northward from the Michigan town of Gaylord to the top of the Lower Peninsula at Mackinaw City and connects to the North Western State Trail. It serves the towns of Vanderbilt, Indian River, and Cheboygan which connects to the North Eastern State Trail.

The Campbell-Pratt Airport (FAA LID: Y65) is a publicly owned, public use airport located 1 mile east of Indian River, in Tuscarora Township, Michigan.The airport hosts a chapter of the Experimental Aircraft Association, which hosts events such as fly-ins and pancake breakfasts.

Mentor Township is a civil township of Cheboygan County in the U.S. state of Michigan. The population was 857 at the 2020 census.

WCHY (97.7 FM) is a radio station licensed to Cheboygan, Michigan, United States. The station airs a format consisting of local talk shows and oldies and is currently owned by Michigan Broadcasters LLC. The station previously aired a country music format branded as "Straits Country", which originated on WWSS 95.3 FM in Tuscarora Township and moved to WCHY on March 12, 2018.

The Inland Waterway or Inland Water Route is a 38-mile-long (61 km) series of rivers and lakes in the U.S. state of Michigan. With only a short portage, it forms a navigable route for small craft connecting Lake Huron and Crooked Lake, across the Northern Michigan region. Despite Little Traverse Bay being only 2 miles west of Crooked Lake, the waterway does not connect to it, making Lake Michigan inaccessible through this route. The route is in Emmet and Cheboygan counties and consists of Crooked Lake, Crooked River, Burt Lake, Indian River, Mullett Lake, and the Cheboygan River. The route passes through or near the communities of Conway, Oden, Ponshewaing, Alanson, Indian River, Topinabee, and Cheboygan.

Gete Mino Mshkiigan, pronounced “geh-teh-mino-mush-key-gun,” is an undeveloped state park located in Cheboygan County in the U.S. state of Michigan. The park occupies 147 acres (59 ha) along the shores of Mullett Lake. The North Central State Trail, a 75-mile long state-owned rail trail, runs through the property close to the shoreline of the lake. The shoreline itself consists of 1,500 feet of undeveloped lakefront. According to the Michigan Department of Natural Resources (DNR), "the undulating terrain is dominated by mixed coniferous/deciduous forest, with approximately 35% of the land identified as emergent wetlands."

Burt Lake is a 17,120 acres (69.3 km2) lake in Cheboygan County in the U.S. state of Michigan. The western shore of the lake is on the boundary with Emmet County. The lake is named after William Austin Burt, who, together with John Mullett, made a federal survey of the area from 1840 to 1843. The lake is approximately 10 miles (16 km) long from north to south, about 5 miles (8.0 km) at its widest, and 73 feet (22 m) at its deepest. Major inflows to the lake are the Maple River, which connects with nearby Douglas Lake, the Crooked River, which connects with nearby Crooked Lake, the Sturgeon River which enters the lake near the point where the Indian River flows out of the lake into nearby Mullett Lake and the Little Carp River which enters on the northern end of the lake. The lake is part of the Inland Waterway, by which one can boat from Crooked Lake several miles (km) east of Petoskey on the Little Traverse Bay of Lake Michigan across the northern tip of the lower peninsula's so-called mitten to Cheboygan on Lake Huron. Along with nearby Mullett Lake and Black Lake, it is noted for its population of Lake Sturgeon, which briefly held the record of largest sturgeon caught in the USA. YMCA Camp Al-Gon-Quian and Burt Lake State Park are both located on the southern shore of the lake. The unincorporated community of Burt Lake is on the southwest shore on M-68. Interstate 75 passes to the east of the lake, with two interchanges near the south end of the lake at the unincorporated community of Indian River.

The Pigeon River is part of the Lake Huron watershed in Michigan in the United States. It is one of many rivers that have their headwaters in Otsego County. The Pigeon River's headwaters start just north and east of Gaylord, Michigan, at the Otsego Club and Resort. From there the river flows north 47.4 miles (76.3 km) through private land and the Pigeon River Country State Forest to Mullett Lake. Much of the Pigeon River is classified by the Michigan Department Natural Resources (DNR) as a blue ribbon trout stream with special fishing regulations to conserve and enhance the trout fishery. The Pigeon is also a designated Natural River with special regulations regarding development along its banks.
