Sandhammaren is a Swedish lighthouse, and the name of both a beach and a point east of Ystad in Scania. At first two identical lighthouses were constructed, because it was a risk to mistake this lighthouse with the one on Ertholmene. The flame first ran on colza oil. Later on (1891), one of the lighthouses was put out of service and moved to Pite-Rönnskär in Norrland, at the same time the lamp was transformed to a paraffin lamp. The lighthouse was electrified in 1952. The Swedish Maritime Administration owns and runs the lighthouse.

Dag Hammarskjöld's farm Backåkra (Swedish: [ˈbǎkːɔkra]), close to Ystad in southern Sweden, was bought in 1957 as a summer residence by Hammarskjöld, then Secretary-General of the United Nations (1953-1961). The farm was in decline and its restoration came to last until after Hammarskjöld's death in 1961. It was maintained by the Swedish Tourist Association, as a museum displaying his belongings and art, furniture, gifts and more - many from his time at the UN. The south wing of the farm was reserved as a summer retreat for the 18 members of the Swedish Academy, of which Hammarskjöld was a member. There is an outdoor meditation site on the beautiful property of 74 acres, which is a nature reserve. Today, the house is owned by Dag Hammarskjölds Backåkra Foundation and contains a museum, conference, small café and book shop. Backåkra is the name of the farm itself, but also the name of the village to which the farmstead belongs. Due to the 1803 land reform in Scania, farms were moved out of the village with the result that Backåra is now chiefly a land register. Its local school, the folkskola, is today a summer hostel run by the Swedish Hiking Association. The lands of the village are situated less than a mile from the shores of the Baltic in the Österlen area of Scania. Known for its summer cottages and outdoor recreation, the area is popular with tourists. In April 2018, the United Nations Security Council held a unique meeting at Backåkra. They very rarely have meetings outside the UN headquarters in New York.

Brantevik is a locality situated in Simrishamn Municipality, Skåne County, Sweden with 409 inhabitants in 2010. It was the home of the Brantevik Eel, a 150-year-old eel. It is also home to the Branteviks Museum, which displays maritime equipment used in the harbour station from 1855 till 1957. The first known settlement in Brantevik dates from 1755. The “Sjöassuransföreningen Hoppet” was founded in Brantevik in 1871. It functioned as a insurance association for ships from Brantevik. When the association was founded, Brantevik had 23 ships. The number of ships grew rapidly during the following years, and in 1899 118 sailing ships of different kinds were registered in Brantevik. It has been said that during its peak years in the late 1800's, Brantevik had the largest sailing fleet in Sweden. However, during the 1900's the number of ships decreased until 1959, when the last ships were sold. The insurance company was liquidated in 1955. The Brantevik Coat of Arms was approved on the 27th November 1979, by the Swedish National Archive's heraldic section (Dnr 289/79). The artist Helge Lundström later enlarged the coat of arms and painted it on the shield located at the Branteviks Museum.
