Tong, West Yorkshire

Tong (population 17,069 - 2001 UK census) is a ward within the City of Bradford Metropolitan District Council, West Yorkshire, England, named after Tong village which is its oldest settlement. The population at the 2011 Census was 20,608.

Cockersdale is a location near Tong, south-west of Leeds, West Yorkshire, England. The Leeds Country Way follows the valley known as Cockers Dale, along Tong Beck, from the A58 road northwards. The beck forms the boundary between the metropolitan districts of Leeds and Bradford for much of the valley, but the settlement identified on Ordnance Survey maps as Cockersdale is within Leeds.

Holme Beck is a watercourse in the Tong ward of the City of Bradford, West Yorkshire, England. It drains a shallow valley east of the watershed between Bradford and Leeds. Holme Beck begins in the village with no evidence of any continuation on the other side of the canal or motorway. Holme Beck is the main carrier for village drainage, it runs beneath the West Coast Main Line and then through the large marsh area of Holme Moss before joining the River Bela.

Fulneck Moravian Settlement is a village in Pudsey in the City of Leeds metropolitan borough, West Yorkshire, England. The village (grid reference SE225319) lies on a hillside overlooking a deep valley. Pudsey Beck flows along the bottom of the valley.

Fulneck Moravian Church and its associated settlement were established on the Fulneck estate, Pudsey, in the West Riding of Yorkshire, England, in 1744 by Count Nicolaus Ludwig von Zinzendorf, a Moravian Bishop and Lutheran priest, following a donation of land by the evangelical Anglican clergyman, Benjamin Ingham. Fulneck is now part of the City of Leeds, West Yorkshire.

The School is part of the Fulneck estate which includes the Church, Museum, multiple resident buildings and shops and is named after Fulnek, Czechia.

Drighlington is a village and civil parish in the City of Leeds metropolitan district, West Yorkshire, England. Historically part of the West Riding of Yorkshire, the village lies 5 miles (9 km) south-west of Leeds and 4 miles (6 km) south-east of Bradford. The name of the village is often shortened to Drig. The population of the civil parish as of the 2011 census was 5,528.The village sits in the Morley North ward of Leeds City Council and Morley and Outwood parliamentary constituency.

Pudsey Greenside railway station is a closed railway station in Pudsey in the former West Riding of Yorkshire England, located about 6 mi (10 km) west of Leeds station. It served the central part and western parts of Pudsey. It was opened to passengers on 1 April 1878 as the terminus of a single-track branch line from Bramley, built by the Great Northern Railway. Freight traffic had already started in 1877. In 1893 this line was double-tracked and extended through Greenside Tunnel towards Laisterdyke and Dudley Hill, forming the Pudsey loop line railway. Upon the reorganisation of the railways in 1923, the line passed to the London and North Eastern Railway, and in 1948 to the Eastern Region of British Railways. The station was located east of Carlisle Road, with the station building on its northern side. A substantial goods shed was built on the south side of the station.The station and the line in its entirety were closed to all traffic on 15 June 1964. The site of the former station is now occupied by warehouses. The site where the goods sheds and sidings once stood is now housing. Pudsey is now served by the station New Pudsey on the Calder Valley Line, opened on 6 March 1967 and located about 1 mi (1.6 km) north of the town centre.

The Battle of Adwalton Moor occurred on 30 June 1643 at Adwalton, West Yorkshire, during the First English Civil War. In the battle, the Royalists loyal to King Charles led by the Earl of Newcastle soundly defeated the Parliamentarians commanded by Lord Fairfax.

Remnants of strong coal, wool and iron ore industries remain in the county, having attracted people over the centuries, and this can be seen in the buildings and architecture. Quite a few railways and the M1, M621, M606, A1(M) and M62 motorways traverse the county. West Yorkshire includes the West Yorkshire Built-up Area, which is the biggest and most built-up urban area within the historic county boundaries of Yorkshire.

Birkenshaw and Tong railway station served the village of Birkenshaw, West Yorkshire, England from 1856 to 1964 on the Leeds, Bradford and Halifax Junction Railway.
