High Royds Hospital

The High Royds Hospital Railway was a short railway connecting the West Riding County Asylum near Leeds in West Yorkshire with the Midland Railway line between Menston and Guiseley on the Otley and Ilkley Joint Railway (nowadays the Wharfedale Line). The line opened in 1883 and ran for just over 0.5 miles (0.80 km), it was constructed to 4 ft 8+1⁄2 in (1,435 mm) standard gauge and was a single line throughout. The line closed in the 1930s in the face of road competition and increasing maintenance costs but reopened again in 1939 when the outbreak of war led to a fuel shortage for road transport. Final closure came in 1951.

Menston is a village and civil parish in the City of Bradford in the county of West Yorkshire, England. Along with Burley in Wharfedale, most of Menston is within Wharfedale Ward in the metropolitan borough of Bradford. The remainder of Menston is in the Leeds City Council area. The route to Otley was closed in 1965, but the Ilkley line (though also listed for closure in the 1963 Beeching Report) avoided a similar fate, being finally reprieved in 1972. Electric services at the station commenced in 1994. Between 1883 and 1951, High Royds Hospital, which stood to the west of the line, was served by a long private siding from just south of Menston station. Menston station was redeveloped in 2000 as part of the general improvements to the Wharfedale Line by the West Yorkshire Passenger Transport Executive. The disused station building was brought back into use and a new ticket office was opened. The station now includes ticket machines where passengers can buys tickets and view services from Menston. Its current opening times are 06:15–18:00 Mon–Sat and 09:15–17:00 Sunday. A bus stop was added in the station forecourt. It is planned for platform 1 to be extended; this is to allow for six-carriage trains in the future.

Nethermoor Park is a football stadium in Guiseley, West Yorkshire and the home ground of Guiseley A.F.C. Opened in 1909, the stadium has a capacity of 4,000. Following the club's promotion to the National division of the National League in 2015, plans were submitted to ensure the ground passed the ground grading requirements of a 4,000 capacity with 500 seats; the expansion would involve creating new terraces on three sides of the ground and covering all four sides. The extension was completed before the 30 March 2016 deadline.The record attendance at the ground is 3,366 for a friendly match against Leeds United on 26 July 2018.

Esholt railway station was a railway station on the Shipley to Guiseley line of the Midland Railway. It opened on 4 December 1876 along with Baildon station when the line was formally opened, and closed on 28 October 1940. The buildings remained after closure before being demolished in 1953.The station was listed for closure because it was losing £100 per year. A Bradford-based insurance broker, Mr Ben Ivinson, pulled the communication cord on a steam train from Bradford to Ilkley to try to get the train to halt in the station area. Mr Ivinson was protesting about the station's closure and the railway's response of there being a good enough bus service.

Wharfedale is a ward in the north east of the City of Bradford Metropolitan District Council in West Yorkshire, England and is situated in Wharfedale (which the ward is named after), one of the Yorkshire Dales. It consists of the settlements of Burley-in-Wharfedale, Burley Woodhead and Menston along with surrounding moorland. The population of the ward taken at the 2011 Census was 11,836.

Esholt is a village and former civil parish in the metropolitan district of the City of Bradford, West Yorkshire, England. It is situated 3 miles (4.8 km) east of Shipley town centre, 1.5 miles (2.4 km) south-west of the A65 in Guiseley, 7 miles (11 km) north of Bradford City Centre, and 10 miles (16 km) north-west of Millennium Square, Leeds. The name "Esholt" indicates that the village was first established in a heavily wooded area of ash trees.
