Minwear

Minwear Wood is a Site of Special Scientific Interest (or SSSI) in Pembrokeshire, South Wales. It has been designated as a Site of Special Scientific Interest since January 1968 in an attempt to protect its fragile biological elements including ancient woodland of sessile oak (Quercus petraea) with hazel (Corylus avellana) and downy birch (Betula pubescens) on the upper part of the Milford Haven estuary. The wood is structurally diverse and has scarce plants and epiphytic lichens. The site has an area of 13.69 hectares (33.8 acres) and is managed by Natural Resources Wales.

Martletwy is the name of an electoral ward in Pembrokeshire, Wales. It is bordered to the west by the River Cleddau and includes three communities within its boundaries, namely Llawhaden, Martletwy, and Uzmaston, Boulston and Slebech. The ward elects a councillor to Pembrokeshire County Council. According to the 2011 UK Census the population of the ward was 1,970.

Blackpool Mill is a 19th century flour mill in the community of Martletwy, in the Pembrokeshire Coast National Park. It sits to the west of Blackpool Bridge on the southern bank of the Eastern River Cleddau, downstream from Canaston Bridge. Built in 1813 on the site of former ironworks, the mill is a Grade-II* listed building, which is intact and contains working machinery, but has ceased commercial operation. Blackpool Mill is listed by RCAHMW as an historic place name. The mill was originally powered by a centre water wheel, 4.5 metres (15 ft) in diameter and 3.5 metres (11 ft) wide. A turbine replaced the wheel about 1900, driving four pairs of stones. The mill remained in use until 1958; the drive was converted to electricity. In 1968, renovations enabled the building to be opened to the public. Currently, the mill is closed to the public but features in the Narberth to Blackpool Mill Walk.Several other features of the site are listed by Coflein: Blackpool bridge, a furnace, the mill leat and the wharf.

Uzmaston, Boulston and Slebech is a community in Pembrokeshire, Wales, which includes the villages of Uzmaston, Boulston and Slebech, and the Haverfordwest suburb of Cartlett (an area in the western part of Haverfordwest, no longer marked on modern maps).

Slebech was a community (prior to 1974, a civil parish) in Pembrokeshire, Wales, which is now part of the combined community of Uzmaston and Boulston and Slebech, a sparsely populated community on the northern shore of the Eastern River Cleddau. The community shares boundaries with the communities of Wiston and Llawhaden and mainly consists of farmland and woodland. Much of the community is within the Pembrokeshire Coast National Park and Picton Castle's stable block loft is an important breeding roost for the rare Greater Horseshoe Bat.

Canaston Bridge is the location in Pembrokeshire, southwest Wales where the A40 trunk road crosses the Eastern Cleddau. It is on the edge of the Pembrokeshire Coast National Park, 14 miles (23 km) northeast of Pembroke, and close to Oakwood Theme Park and Blue Lagoon waterpark. It is about half a mile upstream of Blackpool Mill, at the normal tidal limit of the river.

The Big House, also known as Landshipping House, is a historic house on the banks of the River Cleddau in Landshipping, Pembrokeshire, Wales. The house was originally built in 1750 and owned by the Owens of Orielton who were the Landshipping Coal Agents. It was constructed using stone and roof materials from an older, ruined inland mansion. This building would have been a simple rectangular design with an entrance facing south-west, before several alterations occurred. The final alterations occurred in 1830 by architect William Owen. Owen added a third storey to the western wing and moved the entrance to the North façade, between two bows that were added at the same time to look out over the River Cleddau. His design was inspired by Slebech Hall and Picton Castle. The house remained occupied until the late 1800s when it fell into disrepair and by 1890 it was a ruin. However, the cottages at the rear remained lived in until the 1970s. In 1922 the Landshipping Estate, including Big House, was sold at auction.A document from 1857 described Big House as having "Bed Rooms, Hall, Parlour, Dining Room, Drawing Room, Nursery, Library, Servants Offices, Range of Stabling, Coach House, Saddle Room & Granary Over Yard, External Walled Garden, Orchards," and a wood set in nearly 6 acres. The property is now set in about 2 acres.

Picton Castle (Welsh: Castell Pictwn) is a medieval castle near Haverfordwest in the community of Uzmaston, Boulston and Slebech, Pembrokeshire, Wales. Originally built at the end of the 13th century by a Flemish knight, it later came into the hands of Sir John Wogan. The castle and estate are now run by the Picton Castle Trust, a registered charity, and are no longer occupied by Wogan's descendants, the Philipps family (see Baron Milford and Viscount St Davids). It is of unusual construction and has been remodelled several times during its history. The castle is a Grade I listed building and its gardens and park are designated at Grade II* on the Cadw/ICOMOS Register of Parks and Gardens of Special Historic Interest in Wales.

Wiston Castle (Welsh: Castell Cas-wis) is a motte and bailey castle in the Pembrokeshire village of Wiston in south west Wales and is one of the best examples of its type in Wales. The castle and village were founded by Wizo, a Flemish settler who was granted the land by Henry I of England after he had wrested control from the previous owner, Arnulf de Montgomery (who was in revolt against Henry). The castle was captured by the Welsh on several occasions but on each occasion it was retaken. It was abandoned during the thirteenth century when the then owner moved to nearby Picton Castle. The castle is situated opposite St Mary Magdalene Church and there are approximately 50 steps leading up to it. It is in the care of Cadw and is a Grade I listed building and a Scheduled Monument.

Wiston (Welsh: Cas-Wis) is a village, parish and community in Pembrokeshire, Wales, in the United Kingdom. It was once a marcher borough. George Owen, in 1603, described it as one of nine Pembrokeshire "boroughs in decay". It continued as a constituent parliamentary borough (voting as part of the borough seat of Pembroke) until the end of the 19th century. It is overlooked by Wiston Castle. The community of Wiston includes the village plus Clarbeston, Clarbeston Road and Walton East.

Llawhaden (Welsh: Llanhuadain) is a village, parish and community in the Hundred of Dungleddy (Welsh: Daugleddyf), Pembrokeshire, West Wales. The community of Llawhaden includes the parish of Robeston Wathen, part of Narberth and the hamlet of Gelli, and had a population of 634 in 2001, increasing to 688 at the 2011 Census.
