Puddington, Devon

Woolfardisworthy (pronounced "Woolsery") is a village and civil parish in Mid Devon. It is situated about 5 miles (9 km) north of Crediton. According to the Oxford Dictionary of English Place Names (Eilert Ekwall, 4th ed., 1960), the origin of the name is probably "Wulfheard's homestead". The element "worthy" is from Old English worþig, one of several words for a homestead or small settlement found in English place names. Along with a few other places in Devon, it is one of the longest place names in England with 16 letters. The civil parish also contains the village of Black Dog.

Nomansland is a hamlet in Devon, England, with a population of about 150. It is eight miles west of Tiverton. It is so named because it was at one time a remote extra-parochial area where the Parishes of Witheridge, Thelbridge and Cruwys Morchard met (as they still do, but Nomansland is no longer extra-parochial). The hamlet is administered by Mid Devon District Council but is very close to the boundary between the Mid Devon District Council and North Devon District Council. It is in the parliamentary constituency of Central Devon.

Washford Pyne is a village and civil parish in Devon, England. It is 7 miles NE of Morchard Road railway station and 8 N by W of Crediton.The local church is dedicated to Saint Peter and the base of the tower dates from the 15th century with the rest of the church rebuilt in 1882. It is a grade II* listed building.

Kennerleigh is a village and civil parish in Devon, England.The church is dedicated to St John the Baptist, which underwent significant restoration around 1847. There was previously a chapel dedicated to St. Clement which is first recorded in 1334.The village, in ancient times known as Kynwarthlegh, was a parish of Crediton Hundred. Lords of the manor included members of the Hidon and Dowrich/Dowrish families. Polwhele, in his "History of Devon" states that Thomas Dowrich sold the manor to John Northcote. According to tradition, however, memorialised in a family card table, he instead gambled away the manor to Sir Arthur Northcote, 2nd Baronet in a game of piquet. Sabine Baring-Gould describes the game in his 1898 book An Old English Home and its Dependencies: Mr. Dowrish, being eldest hand, held the four aces, four kings, and four queens, and promptly offered to bet his manor of Kennerleigh against £500, by no means its value even in those days, that he won the game. Sir Arthur took the bet, having a claim of carte blanche on his undiscarded hand. After Sir Arthur had discarded, he took up two knaves, and held two points of five each, each headed by the knave. Mr. Dowrish being about to declare, was stopped by Sir Arthur's claim for ten for carte blanche, which ruined his chances. The point fell to Sir Arthur, and two quints.

Black Dog is a village in Mid Devon, ten miles west of Tiverton and six miles north of Crediton. The village is on one of the highest ridges of land between Dartmoor and Exmoor, at an altitude of 656 feet. It enjoys views to both moors, but particularly of Dartmoor from the pub, now closed, the Black Dog Inn, which was a favoured watering hole for walkers on the 'Two Moors Way'. Black Dog is split between the civil parishes of Washford Pyne and Woolfardisworthy. The Iron Age hill fort Berry Castle, Black Dog is to the south (not to be confused with the other Berry Castles within Devon).

Poughill (pronounced "po-il") is a village and civil parish in Devon, England. It lies 5 miles (8 km) north of Crediton. In 2011, the parish had a population of 216.Anciently, Poughill was held by the Poughill or Poghill family and was recorded in the Domesday Book in 1086. The topynym, recorded in the Domesday Book as Pochehille, is either from the Old English pohha "pouch" and hyll "hill", meaning "hill by a pouch or hollow", or from a man named Pohha.The historical map of Poughill (in 1945) shows a number of contour lines where land reaches 600 feet (180 m) above sea level. This variation in relief is shown today, particularly in the image of Poughill towards Cheriton Fitzpaine.

Stockleigh English is a village and civil parish in Devon, England. It has a 15th-century church, Saint Mary the Virgin, which was restored 1878–83.Stockleigh Court in the parish is a grade II listed building which was the home of the Bellew family who lived at Stockleigh Court from the 16th to 20th century.

Witheridge Football Club is a football club based in the Devon village of Witheridge. They are currently members of the Devon & Exeter League Division Three and play at Edge Down Park.

Fordy Wood Copse is a woodland in Devon, England, near Sandford. It covers a total area of 0.64 hectares (1.58 acres) and overlooks the River Creedy. It is owned and managed by the Woodland Trust. There is no public access to the site.

Berry Castle is an earthwork probably dating to the Iron Age close to Black Dog in Devon north of Crediton and west of Tiverton. It does not fit the traditional pattern of an Iron Age Hill fort. Although the earthwork would seem to be an incomplete enclosure, it is not at the top of a hill, although it is on the south east slope of a major hill which peaks at 199 Metres above Sea Level.

Witheridge is a village and civil parish in the North Devon district of Devon, England. In 2001 the population of the parish was 1162, reducing slightly to 1,158 at the 2011 Census. An electoral ward with the same name exists. The population at the above census was 2,313. Its name may be derived from the Old English for "Weather Ridge", which would fit with the village's somewhat exposed situation. Situated almost equidistant from Dartmoor and Exmoor, the village has earned the nickname the Gateway to the Two Moors Way. Butcher FJP Maunder established his business in the village in 1879, which taken over by his son became local butchers chain Lloyd Maunder. The village is home to two shops, a pub, restaurant and a cafe. There is also the home to Mid Devon Medical Practice. It is also home to a Gothic-style church, built circa 1500, and restored in 1841 and 1884. The stone pulpit located in the church is one of just 70 medieval stone pulpits in England.The village is twinned with Cambremer, France, and the two villages have annual exchange trips (although not solely for students).
