USS Enterprise (CVN-65)

Medical Arts Building is an American historic medical office building located at Newport News, Virginia. It was designed by architect Charles M. Robinson and built in 1928. It was listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 2002.

The first Newport News Public Library, renamed West Avenue Library, now NNPLS Technical Services, in the Newport News Public Library System, was opened on October 14, 1929 at the corner of West Avenue and 30th Street in the City of Newport News, Virginia. This building was the first to be built in Newport News for the express purpose of being a library. In 2005, the West Avenue Library was placed onto the Virginia Landmarks Register and the National Register of Historic Places under its original name of Newport News Public Library. The building now known as West Avenue Library; however it is no longer a functioning library.

The First Baptist Church is a historic church building, now housing the non-denominational Dominion Outreach Worship Center, at 119 29th Street in Newport News, Virginia. Built in 1902, the church is a prominent local example of Romanesque Revival architecture executed in stone. It was designed by R.H. Hunt of Chattanooga. It is fronted by a three-arch recessed porch, flanked by a tower on the left whose upper stages have rounded corners, and is capped by a pyramidal roof with conical turrets at the corners. The congregation was organized in the 1880s, and occupied this site until the 1980s. The congregation opened a suburban chapel in 1979. It operated on both sites for many years before closing the 29th Street church.The building, and the attached education building, were listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 2000. Since First Baptist left the building has been owned and occupied by a number of churches. In 2000 it was owned by Rehoboth Fellowship Church, later it was occupied by Calvary Revival Church Peninsula, and in 2022 by Dominion Outreach Worship Center.

St. Vincent de Paul Catholic Church is a historic Catholic church complex in Newport News, Virginia, United States. It was built 1916–1917 and is a 1+1⁄2-story, brick, Classical Revival style longitudinal-plan church. It was designed by the Carl Ruehrmurd of Richmond, Virginia. The front facade features a pedimented portico with four fluted Corinthian order columns. Associated with the church are the contributing rectory (1917), garage (1917), and prayer garden. The parish was established as a mission of the St. Mary Star of the Sea Church at Old Point Comfort in 1881. St. Alphonsus, an African American parish established in 1944, was merged with St. Vincent de Paul in 1970. This made it the first historic church in downtown Newport News to be racially integrated.It was listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 2005.

The Newport News Victory Arch (or simply Victory Arch) is a monument in Newport News, Virginia, erected first in 1919 and then rebuilt in 1962. The Victory Arch was established as a memorial to those who served in the American armed forces during periods of war. It is located on 25th Street and West Avenue in downtown Newport News, near the Jessie M. Rattley Municipal Center.

Hotel Warwick is a historic hotel building located at Newport News, Virginia. It was built in 1928, and is a seven-story, brick building in an eclectic Gothic Revival / Art Deco style. It features terra cotta tile ornamentation and a continuous terra cotta and brick false parapet. A two-story addition was added to the rear of the building in 1962. It was the first skyscraper, first tower hotel and first fireproof hotel in Newport News. It replaced an earlier Hotel Warwick built by Collis Potter Huntington in 1883.It was listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 1984.

Newport News High School was a high school located in Newport News, Virginia, United States. It was located at 3100 Huntington Avenue and operated by Newport News Public Schools.

Riverside Apartments, also known as Shipyard Apartments, is a historic apartment complex located at Newport News, Virginia. It was built in 1918, and consists of two, four-story, U-shaped brick apartment buildings decorated with simple bands of sandstone. The buildings features some classically derived decoration around the portals and a few accents of the same type on the parapets. They were built for the United States Shipping Board Emergency Fleet Corporation to alleviate the housing shortage created by an influx of workers into the Newport News Shipyards during World War I. Two of the four original buildings were destroyed, one in 1975 and the other in 1979.It was listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 1983.

The Apprentice School is a four to eight-year apprenticeship vocational school founded in 1919 and operated by Newport News Shipbuilding & Dry Dock Company in Newport News in the U.S. state of Virginia. The school trains students for careers in the shipbuilding industry. The school announced in April 2021 that it would begin awarding associate degrees in twenty-six maritime programs to its students beginning in 2023. Additionally, students can also earn associate degrees through a partnership with Thomas Nelson Community College and bachelor degrees through a partnership with Old Dominion University. The school's athletic teams compete under the nickname of 'Builders' and competes with other small colleges.

Noland Company Building is a historic building located at Newport News, Virginia. The original section was built in 1920, and is three stories in height and is a cast-in-place concrete and brick structure. Later additions are a four-story brick addition and two-story brick addition parallel to the four-story section to create a "U" shape. The building took its present form by 1938. It features large industrial-sized windows that provide light in both the three- and four-story sections. Until 1996, the building served as headquarters for the Noland Company, a wholesale distributor of plumbing, heating, air conditioning, refrigeration, electrical, and industrial supplies.It was listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 2010.

Newport News Shipbuilding (NNS), a division of Huntington Ingalls Industries, is the sole designer, builder, and refueler of aircraft carriers and one of two providers of submarines for the United States Navy. Founded as the Chesapeake Dry Dock and Construction Co. in 1886, Newport News Shipbuilding has built more than 800 ships, including both naval and commercial ships. Located in the city of Newport News, its facilities span more than 550 acres (2.2 km2). The shipyard is a major employer, not only for the lower Virginia Peninsula, but also portions of Hampton Roads south of the James River and the harbor, portions of the Middle Peninsula region, and even some northeastern counties of North Carolina. The shipyard is building two Gerald R. Ford-class aircraft carriers: USS John F. Kennedy (CVN-79), and USS Enterprise (CVN-80).In 2013, Newport News Shipbuilding began the deactivation of the first nuclear-powered aircraft carrier, USS Enterprise (CVN-65), which it also built. Newport News Shipbuilding also performs refueling and complex overhaul (RCOH) work on Nimitz-class aircraft carriers. This is a four-year vessel renewal program that not only involves refueling of the vessel's nuclear reactors but also includes modernization work. The yard has completed RCOH for five Nimitz-class carriers (USS Nimitz, USS Dwight D. Eisenhower, USS Carl Vinson, USS Theodore Roosevelt and USS Abraham Lincoln). As of November 2017 this work was underway for the sixth Nimitz-class vessel, USS George Washington.

James A. Fields House is a historic home located in the Brookville Heights neighborhood in the East End of Newport News, Virginia. It was built in 1897, and is a two-story, Italianate style red brick dwelling on a raised basement. It features an entrance tower with a low pitched hipped roof and two ten-foot tall two-over-two windows on the first floor. It was built by the prominent African-American lawyer and politician James A. Fields (1844–1903) and served as the location of the first black hospital in the city, which later became the Whittaker Memorial Hospital.It was listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 2002.
