Brown County Museum (New Ulm, Minnesota)

The Battles of New Ulm, also known as the New Ulm Massacre, were two battles in August 1862 between Dakota men and European settlers and militia in New Ulm, Minnesota early in the Dakota War of 1862. Dakota forces attacked New Ulm on August 19 and again on August 23, destroying much of the town but failing to fully capture it. After the second attack, New Ulm was evacuated.

The Minnesota Music Hall of Fame is located at First North Street and Broadway in New Ulm, Minnesota, United States, in the former public library. It has memorabilia of individual musicians and musical groups, as well as photographs of all who have been inducted. The museum is open during the summer months and by special request during the winter. Exhibits honor Minnesota music legends like Bob Dylan, Judy Garland, Prince, Eddie Cochran, Bobby Vee, Ervin Wolfe, John Denver, Whoopee John Wilfahrt, Harold Loeffelmacher, Earl Schmidt, Wally Pikal and The Andrews Sisters. It also documents local ethnic music, like the popularity of polka music in rural Minnesota. Each year, new inductees are added at a dinner ceremony in October.

The private commercial structure was placed on the National Register of Historic Places (NRHP) on December 31, 1979. The building is significant for the extensive features of the front facade as compared to the other "Main Street" buildings in New Ulm and surrounding communities.

George's Ballroom was a ballroom in New Ulm, Minnesota, United States that was built in 1947 and became a popular spot for young couples reuniting after World War II. Performers such as Lawrence Welk, The Andrews Sisters, Glenn Miller and the Six Fat Dutchmen all played there, and in its heyday it was an important center for big bands and polka music. George's Ballroom was listed as a contributing property to the New Ulm Commercial Historic District.The colorful art deco building is a symbol of the small-town ballrooms that were the center of weekend activity is rural America. The ballroom also housed a bowling alley, restaurant and bar. The building closed in 1991 due to declining interest in big bands, ballroom dancing and polka. The complex was acquired by Brown County in a tax foreclosure case. The building was later sold at auction and the new owner made plans to renovate and re-open the historical complex. The Minnesota Historical Society funded a study, completed in 2003, and a preservation architect team was hired to restore the building to its former glory. The ballroom re-opened, but its ultimate fate was uncertain as of early 2007 due to a disagreement between the owner and the City of New Ulm.The property became tax-forfeit again in July 2019. The Brown County board of commissioners authorized its demolition in September 2019.

The museum commemorates the life and legacy of author and artist Wanda Gág (1893–1946), whose childhood home this was. Gág was a noted children's author and illustrator, whose most well-known book was Millions of Cats. Gág was the eldest of seven children and the child of an artist. Wanda Gág posthumously won the 1958 Lewis Carroll Shelf Award for Millions of Cats and the 1977 Kerlan Award for her entire oeuvre.Built in 1898, Wanda Gág's home is a fine example of Queen Anne Victorian architecture, and was listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 1979.
