Kantipur (from kanti light, pur city) was a medieval kingdom in the Malla confederacy of Nepal. The name of the kingdom was derived from the Sanskrit name of its capital city, now known as Kathmandu.

Paleo Kathmandu Lake is the former lake (or lakes) which lay where Kathmandu Valley is today. Similar to the situation of Mexico City and Pokhara Valley, the valley where the lake once stood is densely populated, and highly vulnerable to both nearby and even distant earthquakes due to liquefaction and amplification of waves because of unsettled clay soil, specifically here called kalimata.

Nepal Mountain Academy (NMA) is a Nepalese government-owned mountaineering school. It functions under the Ministry of Culture, Tourism and Civil Aviation (Nepal).

Singha Durbar (Nepali: सिंहदरवार, lit. 'Lion's Palace') is a palace in Kathmandu, the capital of Nepal. The palace complex lies in the centre of Kathmandu, to the north of the Babar Mahal and Thapathali Durbar and east of Bhadrakali Temple. This palace was built by Chandra Shumsher JBR in June 1908. The palace used to be one of the most exquisite and lavish of palaces in the world until the 1950s. Today it houses buildings of the Nepali Government, including the Pratinidhi Sabha, the Rastriya Sabha and several ministries.

Galaxy Public is located in Gyaneshwar, Kathmandu, Nepal and educates over 2,500 students. Teachers use several audio-visual aids in order to demonstrate the lessons. The aim of the curriculum at this stage is to make children creative and innovative. To develop good toilet habits, to encourage children to eat healthy foods, and to make them aware of the benefits of good health. The minimum age for admission to the Kindergarten class is 5 years. Formal education starts from this class. Apart from oral work, activities, games, practicals, and excursions children are introduced to subjects like English, Nepali, Maths, Science, Social Studies, and Computer Studies.

The Ministry of Federal Affairs and General Administration (Nepali: सङ्घीय मामिला तथा सामान्य प्रशासन मन्त्रालय), (MoFAGA), is the ministry of Nepal that supervises activities undertaken by the local governments in Nepal. It also regulates and manages the civil service.MoFAGA is the only ministry with direct linkage with the country's municipalities, rural municipalities and provinces. It also plays a direct role in implementing various eServices in the local governments.

The National Integrated College (NIC) is a private higher secondary institution in Kathmandu, Nepal. The school educates at Grades 11 and 12 level for which it is affiliated with the Higher Secondary Education Board. It also provides bachelor's degree courses for which it is affiliated with the Tribhuvan University.

Gyaneshwor is one of the central neighborhoods in the city of Kathmandu, Nepal. It is named after the ancient temple of Gyaneshwor Mahadev & Bhairavsthan located there. It is a multi-cultural residential area with good facilities. Some major establishments located there are the German embassy to Nepal, USEF, Mega Bank, Kaveri Inn, Valley Petrol Station, AT Burger House, Galaxy Public School, Mahendra Bhawan School etc. The well known International Primary School, closed in 2011, was also located in Gyaneshwor, where multiple generations of Nepalis from all over Kathmandu started their early education. The football field of Sano Gaucharan is located on the northern side of Gyaneshwor. It is one of the best areas to live in Kathmandu.

The University of Nepal (UoN) (Nepali: नेपाल विश्वविद्यालय) is a public university established by the University of Nepal Act 2024. According to the university, it plans to operate as a research focused institution with autonomy over its academic and administrative decisions. It became Nepal’s 14th university after presidential certification of the University of Nepal Act 2081 on Ashoj 23. The university's official mission statement says reducing the number of Nepali students studying abroad is one of its objectives. The Human Resource Management (HRM) of Nepal reports that its proposal includes a governance model intended to limit political involvement. In addition, the university's proposal describes plans to establish itself as a institution for education and research with both national and international academic engagement. Additionally, UoN will be run by an independent Board of Trustees who will be responsible for appointing senior leadership positions (such as selecting its own vice-chancellor). The main administrative headquarters of the university will be set outside the Kathmandu Valley.

KIEC, formerly known as Kathmandu Infosys, is a private company that serves students intending to study abroad and assists individuals for migration purpose. Its primary services include academic and career counseling, migration service, and standardized and proficiency test preparation. It is headquartered in Dillibazar Road, Kathmandu, in an area that has been referred to as the abroad education hub of the nation. Along with the head office in Dillibazar Road, it has a total of eleven branches in major economic hubs all over Nepal and two global office in Australia. KIEC is the authorized by Ministry of Education (Nepal) and Educational Consultancies Association of Nepal, Nepal(ECAN).

The International Convention Centre, formerly known as the Birendra International Convention Centre (BICC), is a major conference venue in Nepal. Located in New Baneshwor, Kathmandu, it currently houses the Federal Parliament of Nepal. The complex uniquely blends Nepalese and modern architecture to create a luxuriously decorated solid structure with multifunctional modern facilities. Built under gratis by China, the BICC was formally inaugurated in 1993 AD.

Venkatesh Mandir (Devasthan) is a Hindu mandir located in Gaushala, Batttisputali Kathmandu, Nepal. It resembles the Lord Tirupati Balaji of India.
